"I remember this job! I will say that the problems were substantially caused by an unexpected act of God. (The review says "rain," but I would call it a major thunderstorm squall line.) But that was not the only cause. That is why I did the following. 1. It was the last time I used a long-time crew chief of mine for roofing. 2. I was very unsatisfied with the way he acted before and during the crisis (just as the customer was). 3. However, I did finish the job, fire the entire crew, and then went back to the home to perform some extra repairs. 4. I also discounted the cost of the project. This was a fair review considering everything. I was happy that the customer and I could part ways amicably at the end, but I certainly wished that my crew had been reliable. I have never, before or since, had to deal with such a major hiring and firing ordeal. Thankfully, writing here in 2018, I have not had this kind of manpower issue since that time. As the saying goes, it really is hard to find good help! And finally, I did the responsible thing to correct the issues with the "rain" and the crew. The extra work that I mentioned? A good portion of a day repairing and painting ceilings. And I already mentioned the discount off the price of the job. I apologized to the customer for the inconvenience. And I went to my crew individually and explained what went wrong, paid them, and had a final meeting with my crew chief. He was a good roofer, but in the end, not trustworthy."
