I am surprised at the good reviews that Al has as my experience has been anything but. In June of 2020 our AC went out, and Al was installing a new unit for my neighbor so asked him to take a look. He quoted me a very good price for the installation of a new unit if I paid cash, so we agreed for him to install a new AC Unit/Gas Furnace. Things went well until it started to get cold, and the heating unit would shut off with and 34 IGNITION PROVING FAILURE. If I shut the unit off and back on it would start running again. I called Al and he asked me some basic questions, and told me to tie the red and white wires together to keep the heat running and bypassing the thermostat. The next cold morning when it went out again, I tied the wires together and it failed. After texting him, he got an attitude that I did not respond earlier that day, as I was really busy with work that day. He asked me a few of the same question for the error code and pics. Then he ignored my text messages. As my wife and I were frustrated waking up to a cold house, she called, and he got an attitude with her as well, then blamed me that I did not know what I was doing. I texted him a few more times throughout the winter and he completely ignored me. Then spring came and did not have any issues as the heater was not running. Now this November the same issue started happening and reached out to Al, and practically begged him to help. He told me he could not come out because he just had back surgery, but assured me it was nothing with the installation, and he would charge me labor even if he could come out. I finally called a professional, CC Fuel and Oil, and they came out a few times to try and figure out the issue at first unsuccessfully, but when I pressed that the heating was never reliable since the install to review the installation. If first thing that CC Fuel and Oil found, was that Al installed the 3" to 2" reducers at the ceiling height and should have been much closer to the heater to allow more air flow. The OLD Heater had the reducer almost near the heater for the intake. Additionally, by having the reducers at the top it would not allow water to flow down from the exhaust, and was collecting water inside the pipe. I have to assume Al did this to make the install easier for himself and save a few bucks as 2" bends and pipe is less than half the cost of 3", and a bit trickier to run. Additionally, on the OUTSIDE, there was another 3â to 2â reducer for the intake line and CC Fuel recommended to cut that off, to allow more air to the unit. This reducer was part of the old heater install, but Al did not recognize that should be cut off. They also recommended that the intake and exhaust pipes were too close, and to divert the exhaust away from the intake with a long bend 90 and extend up and out a bit to prevent carbon monoxide to feed back in. Since I was already over $680 into trying to figure out the problem, I told them I can do that work myself. So that day tacked the outside as it was easier, and cut the outside reducer off for the intake and extended the exhaust away, and that FIXED the issue!! I still plan to do the recommend inside work when time allows, but it has been running for almost a month in very cold weather with no issues, and now have my Nest thermostat installed again. This past year has been a nightmare trying to deal with Al and the heater, but now itâ s finally fixed no thanks to Al.
