Avoid at all costs I would like to start by offering some info about myself for credibility. I am a project manager for a very large commercial contractor. Started out as an electrician, now I have managed many multi-trade projects from the 2 days, $1,000 jobs all the way up to multi-year million dollar jobs and I have never had a worse experience with a subcontractor. I am not extremely picky, I know things are not perfect and I know there will be added costs for unforeseen items and we will run into complications. I would say my expectations are in line with that of a typical homeowner Estimated start date - Middle of October Actual - November 19th Estimated completion - easily done before Christmas Actual - Not happening Hired Rob because I prefer to promote local small businesses over large corporations when it comes to spending my money. For example, every other trade throughout this job is a locally owned small business and they all did excellent work, on time and without any major setbacks. They all met Rob and all said the same thing - this guy has no idea what he's doing. Day 1 - Shatters basement window while throwing old cabinets onto my lawn, no big deal it happens...do not bother cleaning up all the shattered glass in my basement - great start 2nd week in - Demoed my existing kitchen floor to reveal plank flooring, you'd think someone with 30 years experience would know that given the size of the gaps between the 2x4s all of the debris is falling into my basement... did not bother cleaning up the basement Fast forward a couple weeks - he has not walled off the existing doorway that we discussed, he says he forgot and he'll take a look. Couple days later, still hasn't addressed it so I bring it up again... his response I forgot about it and did not include it in the cost of my bid; I pointed out to Rob that this was discussed from day 1 and shown in the drawings HE PROVIDED. Did not do it. Did not even offer a compromise. Would rather argue than eat the $400 it would cost. Instead told me he wanted his payment for completing the drywall work (despite not finishing the opening in the doorway). So after roughly 30 minutes of arguing (7 am), I left because it was not worth my time anymore. At this point, all I wanted was this 30 years established builder out of my house. The only issue was we'd already paid him for 90% of the work including the cabinets/granite/hood etc Now to the cabinets - Cabinets installed, did not pre-drill anything and cracks a good amount of the cabinets, drills 2-4 holes in every lip of each of the uppers trying to find a stud to mount to. Uses 2 deck style screws per cabinet - not safe, not correct. Leaves 4 screws in the bottom of one of them, ask for payment because of the completion, did not caulk any of it, does not seem to care anymore at this point, the feeling was mutual. Paid him. Cuts floor to install a new gas line in the basement and

Robert was trustworthy arriving on time and answering phone calls promptly. He led us through the bathroom remodel and even finished the project with little extras to make the project more complete, things we had not considered. Robert is very easy to work with, scheduling around our busy family routine and finishing on time. Very satisfied!

We have enjoyed the benefits of Rob's craftsmanship for many years. Our home had plenty of room, but we needed a place for our grandchildren and guests to "play". Rob's ideas were a great compliment to what we had in mind, Besides putting in a complete working bar, bookshelves and cabinets for storage for games and other items, the overall end result was perfect. Often our overflow of guests are "bedded down" in the "lower level" because the ambiance of the area is so welcoming. The bathroom and living area provide space for a sleeper sofa, so an extra bedroom was created as well. Rob's timeliness and staying on budget made the entire process a very pleasant experience. Quality and attention to detail resulted in a "perfect job". We would highly recommend Rob for any job you are considering. I forgot to add "honest". Whether we were at home or at work, we could leave our home at any time while Rob was working on the project, without a moment's concern. We have loved and enjoyed the results of Rob's work and have had many people compliment the professionalism of the work done by Alternative Building.

Rob was referred to me by Dillman & Upton. He finished our basement in our new home. He was extremely capable in all areas of design & construction. He's a very hard worker, on time & on budget. His price was very reasonable. It's been a number of years, & our basement still looks fresh & new. I have referred him to several others for kitchen & basement projects & they were very pleased as well. He's easy to talk to & a pleasure to have in our home. We highly recommend him.

Rob remodeled our basement in 2004. He had an excellent vision for the finished design, kept to the proposed timetable and budget, did amazing work, and we still enjoy and get compliments on the quality of our basement today! One of my favorite things about Rob is that he stays on your job until it is done. I hear so many stories of contractors who bounce from job to job, but not Rob. He is a great communicator, problem solves any issues that arise, and is extremely professional. We loved working with him so much that we hired him again in 2007 to completely remodel our entire kitchen and laundry room. Again, his vision and expertise made our dreams a reality. Our kitchen is the showpiece of our home and everyone who enters is blown away by the design, the openness of our new floor plan, and the creative way Rob designed our space. Because of his work, we have stayed in our home all these years. Rob does all the work himself, and his professional craftsmanship will not disappoint! We would hire him again in a heartbeat!

Robert did a complete finished basement for us. His price was reasonable, but he did not use inferior materials or take shortcuts. He did most of the work himself and his attention to detail and desire for complete customer satisfaction are evident in the quality of the work he produced. Thanks to Homeadvisor for telling us about Robert; we highly recommend him!

He has done several jobs for us. Resided an old barn, raised a floor and remodeled our entire kitchen. Every time we need something he is the one we call.

Rob has built out an entire basement, Quality, Quality also built out entire inside of an airstream according to my specs and it has been in shows.

Builders are very easy to work with.
