Rick did an excellent job in cleaning and staining our decks and wood fencing and under our house. He is very conscientious.

Rick went above and beyond in fixing my cabinet! Its better now than it was before it was broken and I felt that Rick was very honest and forthright in his dealings with me about it. I hired Rick to hang my outside Christmas lights. Rick is very professional and organized. He called to verify my project on the day it was scheduled. Will have him back next week for another project and will hire him for a cabinet project in Feb/March. I take reviews very seriously and I wanted to let others know I would not recommend Rick with American Frontier as a painter, which is what I initially hired him to do. I was looking for someone for several painting projects for my new SE Boise home: painting a small living room, painting new French doors that lead from my kitchen to a new deck, and staining/oiling of a new cedar fence. Upon hearing about my projects, Rick also assured me he could carve out matching wood to plug 6 holes in my oak floor where radiator pipes once were. Out of three bids, he was the lowest, and was very articulate, seeming very confident and capable upon first meeting. He often spoke of his partner whom I never met (I am wondering if the great reviews received for this company were for Rick partner?) Rick prepped my living room very well for painting, covering everything not to be painted. He hired two helpers who showed up in an old, dilapidated car filled with stuff that looked like they were living out of with their dog. Both helpers were very nice, but we're definitely not professional painters...one kept asking me where / how to paint the trim and even painted areas he was not supposed to. I had to ask them and Rick to repaint/touch up areas several times. When they were working at my home and I was away (I trusted them), I got a call from a police officer who came to my door having received a call from a neighbor who was concerned homeless/sketchy people who were going in and out of my house (Rick and his helpers). When I asked Rick how long he had worked with his helpers, he said about a month, and he let the man helper go because he could not follow directions. Rick also showed at my house a few times with a horrible cough and his young son to finish work. He offered to paint my front door and ended up taking a few weeks to do it (during winter), and in the end, it was less than a good job which I ended up touching up myself. As the weather got colder in late fall, it was too cold to paint the exterior of the French door and fence. Around Xmas time, I paid Rick a $600 retainer to return when the weather warmed to finish the work (he asked for $50 more which I refused). I called him when the weather warmed in March. He made excuse after excuse as to why he could not make it back to my house being quarantined with his family for two weeks (I reached out to him after two weeks to schedule and he had more excuses about needing to finish other projects, shoulder surgery, etc). He was angry for me texting on a Sunday and instructed me to only contact him after 8 AM on weekdays, adding he would let me know when he was available at his earliest convenience. After many attempts to work with Rick, him saying he would be available Monday (Labor Day) and then not showing, telling me he had a car appointment he forgot about, I told him to keep the $1100 I paid him already; that it was not worth the hassle and frustration of trying to communicate and coordinate with him. Basically I got the feeling he felt he did the work I paid him to do and indicated he did not feel he owed me any more service. As I look at my living room, I see my new windows (installed prior to him painting) had to paint on them, and I see wall areas that need a second coat. Note: I bought all the supplies and paint as well. One side note: Rick said he was a woodworker and could easily create oak plugs for my floor where radiator piping was removed; that never happened. The one plug (out of six promised that I paid for) he made was too small and looks really shoddy with gaps around it; it appears to be a dowel cut from curtain rod-sized piece of wood. Overall, hiring Rick and his helpers was a huge mistake. I guess you get what you bargained for when you go with Low Bid. $1100 to paint a small 1956 living room was a waste of money. The French doors did not get.

Very happy with quality of work. His advice was very knowledgeable. He was there when he said he would be and cleaned up after himself. We will employ him again for other handy man jobs.

He did not research the cost of the materials, he gave me an estimate and then charged me more because the material he wanted to use was not available. I am not in town, so I have not seen the work yet. There was no communication. The work on pictures seems good but I just did not like the fact that he charged me more without even telling me.

Did a good job and was fast, knew what he was doing but did not clean up after he finished.

Rick is punctual, communicative and offered several solutions for the items I needed to have repaired. He is transparent regarding labor costs, which were very reasonably priced. His work was thorough and he did an exemplary job. I am anticipating having him bid on a custom bedroom project in the near future.

Rick is very careful and detailed in all that he does. He does things correctly the first time, so there is no 'do over.' I would not use another handyman personally or for my place of work. I trust him so completely that I referred him to my parents. He has taken excellent care of them.

I called in the morning and I was still on the phone with Home Advisor when Rick called. Rick came out the same afternoon and fixed my toilet and diagnosed the electrical problem. We will have him back out when we are ready to fix the light. Awesome service! He does it all! I have a tile project that I will have him do as well! Can t say enough good things!

Extremely competent work

After 45 minutes of being late, I finally called. He said he was running late and it was another 1/2 hour before he arrived. I was disappointed that he had not called me. And when he came, he was accompanied by his minor son (which was also unexpected). But, his quality of work was excellent! and his son was very well behaved! I would absolutely use him again!

Service pro come after I submitted the request very happy with the service.

Rick did a great job on my door. He routed out a channel on the bottom of a barn door to glide on a track and installed a handle as well. The work quality was excellent. It was a small job but I still felt that I was valued as a customer. Good communication about when the jobe would be completed and when the work was done, Rick kept me updated by text. I will hire this company again.

He did a good job with the power washing and fence repair. The staining went well, but was a little disappointed that he got stain on our landscape rock under our fence. The damage was done before I could ask he to protect it so I didnâ t say anything to him. He did quickly clean up the over spray that he got on our patio. My biggest issue with him was he brought his young son with him to the job site both days. On day one I told him it was not okay with me that he was on the job with him. He said his wife was out of town and he did not have any other option. On day two I was home when he arrived with his child again and I was not happy. After about an hour on the job he did take the child somewhere and returned to finish the job. It was just very unprofessional of him to bring a child to a work site. You canâ t supervise a child and work at the same time.

High quality work and very easy to work with. We ended up asking him to come do another job for us few days later. Would highly recommend.
