American Abbey Flooring and Design started in 1982 as American Carpet Sales. Upon taking ownership in 1991 the DiStefano family expanded the product line and their showroom. Our first expansion took place in 1992 and doubled our space to 1600 square feet. At that time, when ceramic tile was added to our product line, it became over 40% of our total business, reflecting the changes in buyer preferences. In early 1994, another 800 square feet was added, bringing in hardwood and laminate products. Later in 1994, American Carpet joined the Abbey Carpet family, changing our name to American Abbey Flooring and Design. We still maintain the service that only a local, family-owned store can provide and we now have the buying power of over 700 stores. The Abbey Carpet group is a collection of independently owned flooring stores throughout the country teaming up to compete with the national chains. If you do comparison-shopping, you will see our prices are more competitive than theirs are, while our product knowledge and service is light-years ahead. Once again, we expanded our square footage to over 4100. And, we brought in window treatments and area rugs, completing our product offerings to better serve our customers. American Abbey Flooring and Design is now Jacksonvilles premiere floor covering store. Our showroom is state-of-the-art, organized to take the confusion out of buying floor covering.
