American Dream replied to my request on Sunday afternoon. They sent Pedro out on Monday morning . He arrived on time and diagnosed the problem. He called promptly with the quote for repairs and replacement.The air conditioning was repaired with new parts and good service, even finding a previously unknown problem and fixing that. My tenant was pleased to say that by noon on Monday he was already enjoying the relief of a functioning air conditioning system. A lifesaver in Bakersfield.

I hired American Dreams because they responded to my HomeAdvisor post promptly and gave me a reasonable quote for maintenance of my AC unit. The tech was there in less than 2 hours. Of course I know these companies tend to low ball their maintenance charge so they can open up the unit and find something to actually fix. This guy found a capacitor that had started to barely leak. It took him less than 5 minutes to remove it and show me the leak, so I knew the labor was minimal. He quoted me $485. I told him OK, but as soon as he left to buy the part I found it online for about $25. I called him back and told him just to do the cleaning & put the old part back. Even at $100/ hr labor, and including drive time, this job should have cost $285 MAX. I verified my suspicions with a different contractor before posting this.

"I?m sorry to read your comments. After many years this is our first poor review on Home Advisor. I am glad to see that we responded quickly and you did receive fast service. I?m sorry you felt we ?low balled? our maintenance charge. We felt we gave you the best option at the time. We actually have 2 levels of maintenance and an option for a diagnosis charge. When talking to you we thought it was best to service the unit and the office staff did provide you with our current special that is being advertised right now. I have also read the articles of companies low balling maintenance to find things wrong with the system however this is something that you will not find in our company. Your technician did the right thing in showing you the part and allowing you to make that choice to replace it or keep it. Any leak or issue with the capacitor is cause to recommend it to the homeowner for replacement and allow them to choose what to do next. There are a few different types of capacitors out there and in your case this was a dual capacitor which means 2 in 1. Sometimes when checking online or with other companies this is forgotten when asking for a price comparison over the phone. I understand you did call another contractor and I will tell you that we are not the most expensive company in town nor are we the cheapest either. However we do offer more value. Most companies only give 90days to 1 year warranty on parts and labor. Our company offers a standard 2 year warranty on the part and labor. Our maintenance agreement clients actually can receive up to a lifetime warranty on the part and a 25% discount as well. We do not charge by the hour as our prices are already set up in our straight forward pricing guide that you the homeowner can have placed in your hands so you can see that there are no made up or hidden fees. If the call had taken 5 minutes or 5 hours the price to you does not change. Some companies will give a client a price over the phone when they know someone is shopping and not tell the client that they charge a fuel surcharge or a environmental fee on top of the price for the part they called in on. In this day an age with everyone having access to cost of parts online we our constantly checking to see if we offer fair value. I too have been shocked at what I pay for a soda, a radiator for my car, and a hot water heater. It is our intention to provide the quickest and the best service while giving our clients the best rates possible and providing them with the most value. Extremely helpful on the phone. Explained what the charges would be for a diagnostic call. Very friendly. Brandon, the technician, was efficient, helpful, kind and he had a wonderful sense of humor. The problem turned out to be a strap that that should not have been installed (by me). We all had a good laugh about it!

I feel I was way overcharged. It was 107 degrees and needed the ac fixed didn't have time to shop around. The part replaced was under $100. When I researched and they charged me $500. The customer service was good.
