I had a crawlspace encapsulation done just under two years ago. I called about my sump pump and four hours later it was replaced. Under warranty of course

Work was delayed 2 wks from original start date but once work started it was completed fast and very much to my satisfaction. Workers were very courteous and worked with me on some minor changes to the project.

The workers locked my cat in the crawlspace and did not tell us because I assume they didn't want to deal with it. Long story short, my boyfriend and I spent Valentine's Day searching for our cat (we thought he had escaped when they were working on the house). It wasn't until after we called them to complain that they decided to tell us the cat was in the crawlspace. We searched for hours and thought we would never see him again. Luckily, we found the cat in a wall. He was fine, but very scared. It was incredibly unprofessional and unethical. What kind of person knowingly locks an animal in the crawlspace and doesn't care enough to mention it to the owners?! We still have not received an apology and I am incredibly fed up with this situation. We trusted Americrawl with our home and animals while we were away at work and they completely violated our trust. I would not recommend this company because you cannot trust them with your home.
Response from Americrawl Midwest, Inc.
"Although we do appreciate your comments in your correspondence with us that we "do great work" we certainly apologize for this incident and will now discuss with our customers the importance of pet containment while we work on their homes. As we discussed in correspondence with you, working in crawl spaces we will often encounter animals. Whether domestic or wild, we run across racoons, opossums, snakes, mice, cats and occasionally a dog. I understand that you feel we purposefully locked up your cat in the crawl space of your home. I can assure you this is not the case. The last thing we want in your crawl space is an animal of any kind that could possibly harm the animal or destroy the product we just installed. I spoke with the crew about this situation and the foreman stated that he saw a cat in your crawl space but when he tried to approach it the cat darted away. They searched for the cat in the crawl but did not see it. According to your boyfriend, the cat must have been hiding in a cavity where our crew did not see it. Your home is an older home built in a "balloon" style construction, whereby there are wall cavities that are exposed to the crawl space, apparently where your boyfriend found the cat. Assuming the cat had left, our crew closed up the crawl. For this we certainly apologize and for not contacting you sooner of this situation. Our crew certainly did not intend to cause you or your cat any harm. Again, we see animals in crawl spaces very often and we try to keep them out. Americrawl has been working on basements, crawl spaces and foundations since 1992. We have won several awards for customer service. We have also run into several animals in crawl spaces during the last 25 years. This is the first time we have accidentally closed up an animal in a customer's home. But, again, we apologize for this accident, as we certainly did not intend to close your cat up in the crawl space, and we are glad that your cat is now safe and sound."

They waited long time to tell me when it was sched. for & then arrived a week later than sched (illness) They said it was "legally binding" that they would move the heavy stuff out & then return the items as close as possible to original when done. They did not. Numerous attempts to contact sales rep went unanswered. After 2 wks & no response- moved stuff myself. When I finally get a call back I asked that they give me some money back for undone - asked for only $100. Have yet to see the money the sales rep agreed to send me.

Americrawl was extremely professional and really stepped up on a challenging and complex project. If you are looking for the least expensive contractor, Americrawl is not likely the best option for you. However, if you want the project done in a professional and timely manner, and with a level of quality that will last for the life of your home, choose Americrawl. Hopefully, I won't have such a challenging project in the future, but I will DEFINITELY call Americrawl again for any "under house" project.
