We bought our stone house in Upper Black Eddy PA in Aug 2018. Immediately after moving in during a torrential rain we discovered a massive water leak inside our solarium which has a southern facing stone wall exterior. What we thought was causing the issue were breached windows on the second floor that had been improperly installed sometime in 1990. To our surprise and even after total window replacement, the problem persisted. It was evident that this was something beyond our scope of expertise. We asked around and learned of a local mason with stone masonry preservation experience. Trusting a neighborâ s recommendation, we called Anthony Dovidio and without pause he came over immediately to assess our issue. In no time at all it was obvious to him what exactly was causing our issue He explained that the exterior stone wall was allowing water to pass through the stone and mortar down the wall into the inside of the house. It was as if it were literally raining inside the house. We also learned from Anthony that the iron lintel that had been installed over the first floor double window was in fact the wrong style and size. It had corroded and rusted to the point where it had expanded to over double its original size. The bottom line, Anthony knew exactly what to do to correct the problem and formulated a comprehensive detailed plan of attack. His estimate was fair and concise. We contracted Anthony right away. He removed old stone and mortar, installed the correct size lintel and then installed the window header. He fabricated a robust water barrier to preclude any future water intrusion. He reinstalled the stone and mortar to flawlessly match our existing 1801 stone pattern and mortar color and hue. Lastly, he sealed all his work with sealer specifically designed for stone application. Quite simply, he fully corrected our problem in just a few days. A job well done.
