They steal money from people

About a year ago, September 2021, I looked on Angies list for a contractor to pave my drive way. I selected Ashton Trucking and paving, owner Bobby Teeter. A small business that is local. Bobby Teeter made contact, and came to the home to calculate an estimate. To be put on his calendar a deposit was required. I liked his estimate, it was lower than two other contractors. I gave bobby Teeter $5000.00 to be put on the schedule and made arrangements on a date for October. He did come out on the first date but it had rained so much we agreed to postpone until dryer weather. As the winter went on there were a few days that work could have been done. When calling him he was having trouble finding truck drivers. He said he would do the work if he could find truck drivers. He said he had some health problems, and also his wife so he was not able to do the work. Late spring and summer came, I called and rebooked a day. The day came and gone and he was a no show. He came in May after calling and texting then only worked two hours. Bobby said that the asphalt machine broke down at the quarry. I called again in June said he would be out the next day. Three days later he worked a few hours and left again. Bobby said he didn t have a big enough truck to haul his asphalt and still couldn t find truck drivers. July came and I called and text several times. When I would get a reply it was always next week. His standard reply was always next week. At the end of July I called him to advise that a remodel was going on at the house and would call around the first part of September to get on the schedule. I called at that time and made arrangements to have the paving done on September 30 first thing in the morning. We were still in the remodel at the end of September. The contractor was not happy about the paving but would pull the crew for the day to get the paving done. The day came and Ashton Paving again was a no show. I tried calling him the next day, October 1st and my call was blocked. I tried calling several times for the next 2 days and got the same response that he was out of the area and was not able to be reached. The call wouldn t even go to voicemail. So I text Bobby to cancel the contract and would like my $5000.00 deposit back. He said that he would take care of it next week. Its been two weeks and still have not gotten my deposit. My driveway is all tore up and will now be a muddy mess for the winter. I would not recommend Ashton Trucking or Paving for any reason. He will take you money and then make excuses why he cant show up. Then when he cant do the job he will apologize, but with out returning your deposit. Angis List should remove him as a business partner.
