Bathroom - Remodel
If time, money, and a job well done are among your concerns for your project, I can't recommend strongly enough that you choose a DIFFERENT company. Our facts are as follows: 1) TIME: we were told that our remodeling project of a kitchen + 2 1/2 baths would take 6 weeks to complete; 34 weeks have passed and the project is still not even half finished. 2) MONEY: Adam Berthiaume and Michael Amnon (A to Z Renovations, dba Design Renovate) defrauded us by switching a number of the high cost products listed on our contract for similar, less expensive products, and sought to pocket the difference. (We can fully document these allegations). Ours was meant to be a cost-plus contract, but this company was completely incapable of acting in good faith: they disguised prices and they lied about the amounts of their contractors' discounts at every turn. They demanded full payment for materials up-front, and 1) failed to deliver all of the goods paid for; and 2) in one instance, kept back one-half of the payment from the retailer for themselves, forcing us to pay half again to the retailer directly so as to secure delivery of the goods. 3) A JOB WELL DONE: sub-par workmanship was routine with this company. Tiles were laid in the wrong pattern, the island had to be moved because it was fixed too close to the wall, cabinets were mishung, cabinet handles were installed out of alignment, and appliances were repeatedly installed without consideration of whether their doors would be blocked from opening. The bottom line is that without having the least ability ourselves, we are now firmly convinced we could have done a more professional job. We have reported Adam Berthauime and Michael Amnon to the Better Business Bureau. A final word to the wise: do not hire any contractor you have not thoroughly checked out.
