We hired Brian & Aisling Construction to finish our basement back in August 2023. We have a large, unfinished basement and asked for some walls, a ¾ bathroom, kitchenette, and adding some doors to a bedroom space. We were quoted a fair price and told the project would take 6-8 weeks. Work started in late August and after SIX MONTHS of delays, he texted us on 2/26, the day before our final inspection, to let us know heâ d be picking up his things and we should hire another person to finish the work because he could tell we were upset itâ s taking so long. What?! Part of the agreement was that we would pull permits for the work and it took them over a month to provide us with the documents and information in order to get the permit process started. Initial framing inspections failed multiple times, even after I connected Brian with the inspector for Washington Township. General contracting is not the best career match for Brian. Brian would benefit greatly from taking some basic project management courses. He didnâ t keep track of information and when we would correct him, he would claim thatâ s not what we told him. Twice he asked us for a check and after checking MY records, I pointed out that we had already paid for the item/service he was requesting the check for. It would have been great if Brian had done a little more advanced planning, but we often had to be the ones to text him on a Monday morning asking what the plan was for the week because he never got back to us the week prior. There were whole weeks that would go by with Brian saying heâ d be there on a certain day and then just not show up. Brian originally said it would take 6-8 weeks. Then he said by the end of the year. Then he said by January 31st. Then he said by the end of February. Then he â quitâ on February 26th. My husband and his father will have to finish the basement (adding a railing to the stairwell, putting in doors, painting, and trim). Brian has some sort of family/personal emergency on a weekly basis. I get that personal emergencies happen, but as the customer, I donâ t need to know your medical issues or the private issues of your children and employees. If your family obligations are impacting your business on a weekly basis, then you should probably consider hiring an additional employee. I think if Brian adopted an â under-promise and over-deliverâ mindset, it would serve him well. I canâ t tell you how disappointed I was, time and time again, when Brian would make a â promiseâ and it wouldnâ t happen. Like when he swore weâ d pass the framing inspection and we failed it, twice. Or when, at the start of the new year in January, he told us his team would be there late nights throughout January to finish by the end of the month but Brian & team were at our house past 4pm exactly ZERO times. In fact, they never once put in more than 5 or 6 hours of work, at most, on any given day. On the day he quit and came to pick up his stuff, I asked him to help me understand why this work wasnâ t done after six months and he told me â well last week I was sick â I was throwing up in your backyard but I guess you donâ t care about that.â So I guess hire Brian and Aisling Construction if you want to pay someone to hang out in your basement and throw up in your backyard for six months!
