Handyman Service
Right after I submitted a need for a handyman on Home Advisors and hit "Submit" Craig Larson from Backbuilders contacted me by phone. He sounded very nice, I told him what I needed (4 light fixtures and a bathroom ceiling fan), he emailed, we agreed on the price of $245, and we set a date for 4/11/15. Craig came and I showed him the light fixtures that I needed replaced and the new ones put up. Then taking out the old bathroom fan and putting in a new one - this is where I wondered about his common sense. I told him that he could get access to the attic through the garage. He said he didnt need to; he could take care of the installation without doing that. Instead of going up into the attic and pushing the loose insulation away from the fan so there wouldnt be a large amount to deal with, Craig didnt. When he pulled the old fan out a large quantity of insulation came pouring out on his head, face (I asked if he needed eye protection and he said no), and onto my bathroom. As he was cleaning up the mess, he filled half of a large garbage bag. I believe this was totally unnecessary. As I watched the insulation pour over his head, it wasnt comical as disturbing thinking that he didnt know what he was doing. After getting the light fixtures put in at a cost that I could afford and a new bathroom fan that Ive waited years to get installed, I was thrilled and my concerns about his talent/knowledge were quelled. Craig did say that he wasnt able to actually connect my bathroom fan to the vent hose that goes out through my roof because the connector wasnt in the box. He suggested that I go and buy a vent packet at Home Depot, then he would come back to add the connector. Though I paid $120 for him to replace the bathroom fan he now wanted $40 more upfront to come back and add the connector. I was disappointed that the bathroom fan wasnt completely installed. I asked my adult son to go to Home Depot and buy the vent packet that Craig suggested. My son knew that what we needed was a vent connector. He came back and said that there was NOTHING in the packet that even resembled one, it contained odds and ends. I then asked my son to go up into the attic and take a picture of the problem with the fan opening being oblong and the vent hose being round. I then went to Home Depot myself and talked to a worker there in the bathroom ceiling fan section. I told him I needed to buy a vent connector. He questioned why and I then showed him the pictures of my bathroom fan and hose not being connected. He was able to find my bathroom fan on his shelf, opened a box, and showed me the connector that is ALWAYS included in the box. It was at this point that I realized that Craig was being deceitful towards me. He had left the empty fan box behind and there wasnt anything left in the box, he didnt install it, so I believe that he took it and wants to come back to charge me even more money though I already paid him $

$100
Installed a front door handle and lock. The lock was crooked on the outside. Also installed a fireplace mantel, the wall behind the mantel is full of holes. It's been almost a month and I've only heard from him twice and he still hasn't been back to fix the damage.
