Sod Installation
I hired this company to install sod my front yard April 7, 2017, after I was given the company's name as one of two in my area by Home Advisor. Mr. Mark Beets, company "salesman" is that is what you want to call him, signed a verbally and written agreement with me on April 7, 2017, at which time I had listened to Mr, Beets espousal of the Banfield Company's great work, wonderful customer service, etc and was so convincing that I thought he was as truthful as the Pope! He agreed in writng on a completion date of the sod installation to be 6-9 weeks (end of May), as we had agreed before he wrote it on the top of the proposal agreement. Despite numerous calls to Mr. Beet and to the Company's office, the sod installation project was never started and never done. In May 2017 I had even agreed to delay the project until October, but only if Mr. Beets brought me a new contract. The contract I signed on April 7, 2017 became null and void on June 9, 2017, as that was the ending date of the 6-9 weeks (all beautful weather). On June 12, 2017, I called the Company office to try to speak to Mr. Banfield, as I had been told on a previous call to the company's office that they had no manager! Mr. Beets answered the telephone and with a laugh asked me if I was cancelling the contract, after asking me what I wanted! I told him there was no contract for me to cancel since the one I had signed on April 7, 2017 had expired, breached by the Company. He kept laughing and asked me if I wanted him to come over and spray weed and grass killer on my front yard (during a heavy rainstorm, as is the usual in the month of June). I told no I did not and I requested a refund of the $750 downpayment I had paid, as well as the $20 for a soil test that was never done (there were no results for them to send me). I have never received a refund of my large down payment of $750 or the $20 soil test I paid for that was never done. HOWEVER, the company sent me a bill for lawn service to begin February/March that I never agreed to, never requested, and don't have any sod installed for them to service as they never installed the sod! I have read numerous complaints about this company since I started looking for complaints at the end of April 2017, when I became more than suspicious of their honesty. I am a disabled senior citizen and have read many complaints about the company for many other senior citizens and persons whose age I do not know. Their ploy seems to be: Get the customer's business, not do the project at all or provide very bad service, then when the customer objects, the business keeps their large down payment (sometimes thousands of dollars) as their contract is worded in small font they will take 50% of the entire estimated cost of the projected if the customer breaks the contract before the work commences! The entire proposal/agreement, which the customer doesn't see until they are convinced the company is reputable, and then see only briefly, is worde

Lawn Care Fertilize or Treatment Service
Absolutely awful experience with this company. My lawn was in better condition prior to them treating it. I repeatedly asked for return visits and always got the run around. Called them about billing and they would say they will send tech out to treat again and kept billing me for treatment. Haven't heard from them since September 2016 it is now February 2017 and i have been contacted by a collection agency for payment. Told collection agency i would remit half of the balance to pay for the half ass job performed.

"I am so sorry that you feel that way as your review does not accurately reflect our records with your account. We received your voicemail last week and returned your call but did not hear back from you. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to contact our office."

Lawn Care Fertilize or Treatment Service
You must do your research before hiring this company. I failed at this. I hired Banfield's in the middle of last year. We didn't see improvement. I called them in February and told them we were not seeing any results. Person told me they'd contact me when it got warm. I was never contacted. I was told the yard would get better. Silly me took a leap of faith and paid for an entire year to get the discount. It's now May and the yard looks worse than before they began their work. I called to get my money back for the unused portion of the contract. I was told numerous times I would not get my money back and that it was in the contract. Mark told me that when they started on our yard it got a 5 rating and after almost 9 months, it was still a 5! They refused to give us any of our money back. But, they wanted to come and look at the yard and see what they might be able to do. Well, after all these months and there's no improvement, why do I want them to dump more of their product on my yard? If one reads other reviews, this has happened several times. Now I know why they've added this clause to their contract. It's the way they can keep the money and still provide terrible customer service. Mark told me his hands were tied. I asked him what the owner said, and he said the owner said no he was not going to refund the unused portion of the contract. I would not recommend this company!

Sod Installation
The soil needed to be improved before installation, but was not treated. Very unprofessional installation by delaying installation until there was a new crop of weeds and just putting the sod down on top of big weeds. Much of the sod was poor quality when installed and after many phone calls, was finally partially replaced. It still looks terrible. The workers stepped all over some of my flowering plants on the side of the yard (destroying them) and when I informed the company, it was ignored. There doesn't seem to be anyone at this business who really cares whether or not I continue as a customer or not. I had hoped they would correct the situation and I would have a beautiful lawn, but unfortunately this has not happened. I am sorry I went with this company.

"Hello there. We have tried to reach you several times. Last year you spoke with Mark and it was agreed to wait until this spring when the lawn came out of dormancy so we could fix the problem for you. After you posted this, Mark called and spoke to you and you were supposed to call him back. We have not heard from you and Mark has tried to contact you several times. He has left numerous messages. We can not make this right for you if you do not answer our calls or return our messages. If you would like us fix the issue for you please contact Mark so we can move ahead."

Delayed install, and miscommunications. Grass installed finally. Grass with weeds. Within two weeks areas were dead and diseased. Company Called immediately, a couple of weeks later someone came and after another week someone came to apply chemicals. My entire front yard has "large patch disease . The watering schedule was the schedule I was given by the company. Our rain were not severe and we have a rain gauge so no overwatering.
Response from Banfield Lawncare & Landscaping Co.
"During the spring and summer which are our busiest time we let everyone know sod installations schedule a minimum of 6 weeks out. Your install was 8 weeks after the contract was signed. There can always be delays due to rain here or at the sodfarm or if the sodfarm does not have sod available that is up to standard. I am so sorry you feel that we have not taken care of your lawn. Mr. Banfield came out and walked your lawn and at that the lawn had webworm and nutsedge which are caused by overwatering. We can not control or improve a lawn without working together and we can not control the amount of water you apply or the amount it rains. Our area did receive large amounts of rainfall after your lawn was installed. On 11/7/15 your technician was out for your application and treated your lawn for large patch which is also a problem caused from watering. We would be more than happy to do a service call and look at the lawn and treat as needed if the large patch has not gotten better but without communication we do not know you are having a problem. I only wish you had contacted us about the large patch instead of writing a negative review, as I stated we would have come and done a service call already, of course at no additional charge and also go over your watering schedule as the amount of water put down should change throughout the year."

Sod Installation
Contracted on 8/28/2015. After repeated calls to their sales/customer service, was scheduled for 10/14/2015. Not my idea of good communications or service. That sod had better be made of gold and live for ever!!!
Response from Banfield Lawncare & Landscaping Co.
"I am so terribly sorry you feel as though you have had a bad experience. Your contract was signed on 9/3/15 and all sod work between early Spring and the middle of September is given a 6 week time frame. There are a few factors that are out of our control such as weather and the sod farms availability, not to mention we have to allow time to spray the area dead. Once we spray the area dead we have to wait a minimum of two weeks and sometimes an area may need to be sprayed twice. If it rains one day that can push work back a whole week and that is if it rains where we are and also where the sod farm is located. Rodney, your salesman has spoken to you several times since you signed your contract and tried to reach you after you left this review as well but was unable to. I have faith in Zach and our crew that when they finish today the sod will look great! Whether or not it lives forever will mainly depend on how well you maintain it and we will always be happy to help you in the future with any questions you may have!"

Sod Installation
I entered into a contract (with a $500.00 deposit) with Banfields Lawncare and Landscaping on June 3, 2015 to have 750 square feet of sod placed in three locations on my property. On July 7, 2015 after not hearing from this company, I called and inquired. The employee who answered could not find my paperwork, work order, etc. and told me she would have the owner call me back that same afternoon. An employee, not the owner, called me back that afternoon and informed me that my job was scheduled for July 31, 2015, eight weeks after I contracted the company. Prior to this conversation I was never informed that the wait time would be extreme. I voiced my disappointment and told her that the company should void the contract and return my deposit due to its poor service. I received an email that same afternoon from someone calling herself the project coordinator indicating that I would be in breach of the contract and would forfeit hundreds of dollars if I cancelled the contract. I was then informed that my job had been moved up to July 27, 2015. On Friday, July 24, 2015, I was informed that because of heat related illnesses of two landscape crew members, my job was postponed and that I would be called on Monday, July 27, 2015, for rescheduling information. I was never contacted. A prep crew came on August 3, 2015 and removed dead grass and prepared the three sites then departed. The sod was delivered that same afternoon. The fresh sod set on my property in 90 degree weather until April 5 at 3:00 PM when the crew returned and completed the contracted job, nine weeks after the contract was initiated.

Banfield has an awesome team. I had a total sod installation which included killing of existing vegetation. Daniel H. and his team were hard working and exhibited a work ethic that was refreshing to see. The attention to detail, discarding sod that was not up to par....I have nothing but good to say about this crew. Banfield thank you and know you have some great workers on your team. Recommend this company and work leader Daniel H.

The service contracted was to put in new sod, expand 2 beds, mulch and install edging on the beds. Communication about timelines, when I could expect service, service weather delays etc. was nonexistent. I always had to contact them for an update or information. Inexperienced workers were sent with no supervision to work. Best example was that my very first "service" was to send 2 young men to expand my beds who tried to just put mulch on top of dead sod without doing any sod cutting or removal. In addition, they did not even have a rake and had to borrow mine. When the edging was installed, it was actually done well and looks nice. However, there is still a spot not covered and promises to come complete the job did not happen along with promise to come respray where bed was extended and grass grew back in new bed within a week. I ended up canceling the sod care service I had originally contracted for even though the sod installed already has crabgrass growing in it. Just wanted to be finished dealing with this company.
