About us
Bay Country Building Specs is a Home Inspection and Environmental Inspection Company. We are dedicated to educating our clients about their home. We strive to maintain the most comprehensive reporting system available in the market today. We are members of the National Association of Home Inspectors, the American Society of Home Inspectors and certified by the Indoor Environmental Standards Organization. As a Building Specs Inc. affiliate, each of our Inspectors must complete extensive training as well as pass a comprehensive exam. Affiliates also receive hands on field training as part of their education. We believe this is the only method for a Home Inspector to learn proper inspection techniques. We use a state of the art reporting system, which is in an easy to read format. Jim Newcomb and Steve Showalter Jim Newcomb is a lifelong resident of the Eastern Shore, having been raised on a Talbot County dairy farm. This early experience taught valuable lessons in preventative maintenance and the consequences of neglecting operating systems in regards to electrical, mechanical and plumbing, as well as structural components in the numerous buildings and infrastructures of a modern working dairy. In the military service, Newcomb received additional training and experience on both land installations and shipboard in the fields of plumbing (pipe fitting), electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair. For a number of years Jim worked with a local dairy equipment service and installation company as an on-call service technician. In this position, Newcomb was instrumental in the construction and equipping of numerous new dairy facilities. These installations included not only structural components, but also considerable electrical wiring, as well as plumbing and vacuum systems with fittings and components in a wide range of materials such as copper sweat, galvanized, PVC and CPVC. Since April of 1998, Jim Newcomb has received formal training in home inspection and inspection reporting from Building Specs., Inc., one of only a few nationally recognized training facilities in the country. In addition to becoming a Building Specs. Affiliate, Newcomb has received his certification from M.D.E. for water sampling, Lead Paint Inspector Technician and Septic System evaluation and certification. He is also a member of the Maryland Association of Home Inspectors as well as the National Association of Home Inspectors (these two nationally recognized organizations have the strictest membership requirements of any national association). Mr. Steve Showalter, the principal at Building Specs. Inc. is a charter member, and past president of the Maryland Assoc. of Home Inspectors, past president of the National Association of Home Inspectors, and has received national recognition for his efforts towards advancing the level of professionalism in the home inspection industry.
