They quoted a rate on the phone to come out and then charged my wife an additional fee of $99.00 for a "membership." It seems strange to have to pay for a membership to get a light fixture installed.

Excellent experience of customer service, workmanship and response. Only negative is that they are a bit pricey. They did give a call charge discount for using Home Advisor.

ZERO as far as value for work performed. The Story -- Called Berkey's Plumbing in Dallas, TX (817) 993-6492 for help with a clogged toilet - here is the summary: Monday 10/08/2018 around 8PM - Requested a call to my home at 3779 Cripple Creek Dr. - Dallas, T 75224 I had called my brother for help as he has access to things I do not know how to do on a computer and I was not feeling well. My problem was that my toilet had backed up and I needed to get it fixed ASAP. My wife and I are both disabled and having a working toilet is needed 24/7. My brother called in to Berkey's Plumbing Service for assistance. They wanted $250 for a 'late night call from 10PM to--7AM just to show up at the door. My brother told them that was ridiculous. Asked how much it would be if I waited until the AM - told him it would be $69 for trip charge, then whatever the tech has to do would be extra. He agreed to this and set up a service call for Tuesday AM from 9Am-1PM at my house. Tuesday 10/09/2018 - Berkey's rep called MY BROTHER at about 9:50 AM and said the plumber would be there in 30-45 minutes. My brother then called me to be expecting the man around 10:30 AM. The plumber showed up on time as scheduled and went to work. Plumber ran a short snake down through the toilet, problem fixed. He was here around 15 minutes. Presented me with a bill for $300! I said for what? Said that was trip charge of $69 plus a $200 charge for '1st time visit' and labor charge. I complained and the plumber said "I can give you a 10% discount for a senior citizen. Total paid IN CASH, was $278.00. $278.00 for a service call and a quick snake of the toilet. I called my brother later that day to tell him the toilet was fixed and what I was charged. He was furious, first, being sorry for using Berkey and second for the low integrity and price gouging of a senior citizen. My brother said he was going to call Berkeys and get back with me. He said he called Berkey's office at around 4:15PM and filed a complaint about the price gouging, about how totally WRONG it was to charge someone that is on fixed income over 25% of their total monthly fixed income for the work performed and that he hesitated filing a negative report about a company unless he had talked with them first. My brother was told that the matter would be forwarded to a manager for follow up, but since it was so late in the day that it would be Wednesday before the manager would call back. I called my brother this morning, Wednesday, 10/10/2018 at around 9AM and asked if he had heard anything yet. He said no, but added they probably weren't open yet and said he would wait and see if they called by afternoon. As of 2PM they had not called so my brother called them back and filed a 2nd complaint, telling them he had heard nothing from them yet. He was told a second time he needed to talk with a manager and they tried to transfer the call to them; no answer. They took a message and said they would give it to the manager. Now 5:30PM on Wednesday 10/10/2018 and still no one has contacted either me or my brother. Sadly, I guess it has become time to file NEGATIVE responses to Better Business Bureau, YELP, HOME ADVISOR and to ANGIE's LIST Kenneth {Redacted per customers request} ADDENDUM ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 26, 2018: Berkey's Customer Service Mgr, Kelly {redacted per customers request} called me late on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 - explained their charges and on Thursday Oct. 11th, he emailed me a copy of their billing book and a copy of the invoice for my brothers work. On Friday, Oct 12th we talked- told him I found their charges 'excessive' -refund *CLUB charge for $99 seemed least they could do. Mr. {redacted per customer request} said he would check with his boss and see if they could do so. That was 10 days ago, 2 voice mail msgs and 2 emails later no *CLUB membership refund or any response.-...
