review update 9/1/26 Made claim through BH insurance only to find he did not make a claim himself and the insurance does not cover much if anything at all. Was told my original complaint was not true and would be contacted soon but 7 months later still waiting. ________________ Put my request on Angi website. Contacted promptly by B.H. Concrete and Masonry. They installed concrete pad. After inspection surface was 12 inches out of level. We agreed he would refund my money through his insurance but has been difficult to contact since. The insurance company has no knowledge of him or his company.

If I could give 0 stars I would. We hired Black Hills Concrete; Masonry for foundation work and the project cost was paid in full $44000. The project was paid in full, but the work did not meet required measurements, every wall was a different measurements and the home could not be placed as intended. The site was left with uneven excavation, standing water, he excavated to deep and debris, and the project was not completed. The contractor stopped work and did not return, he advised he would rather to go to court then sign a contract to finish the project. We are now working with other professionals to correct and complete the foundation. Based on our experience, I would recommend carefully verifying scope, measurements, and accountability before hiring.

BH Concrete & Masonry (Mr. James) and his grew did a very professional job on repairing our circle housing sidewalks and driveways. The job was done in a timely manner and we were very pleased with his finish product. I will share my experience with others of Black Hills Concrete and Masonry and will be using his business in the future.

They did a great job rebuilding our existing retaining wall. We could not be happier. I would recommend them to anyone.

When James got here it looked like he was going to do everything he said he would. He and his crew showed up when they said they would and started working hard. Than after he poured the driveway, things took a turn for the worse. He started installing the retaining wall and he didn't put in a footing. He just set the block on top of the slab. He told me that he put "thicken edges" around the slab and he would pin it to the slab with rebar. He fired his block mason and things really got worse when he finished the wall himself. The joints were not put evenly where they belong. Than he started the walkway. I told him that the reason I was putting in a walkway next to the house, was because water was getting into my basement and I needed to shed the water away from the house. He told me that would not be a problem. The walkway starts out above the floor in my house. Until the first rain, i didn't realize the walkway shed water towards the house. He installed the block retaining wall on top of the walkway like the driveway. I have had more concrete done since he finished and found that there are no "thickened edged anywhere. In some parts of the slabs the edges are only 2 3\4 thick. I have removed dirt by the retaining walls and slabs and the thickest concrete I have found is only 3 1\2 inches thick. When he got done with the retaining wall, he wanted to get paid. My mistake was I paid him. I asked when he would be back to back fill the retaining walls, and remove the foot marks in the walkway and hand prints on the siding. Someone thought it would be funny to put 5 concrete hand prints on our siding. He said in couple of days he would come back and back fill and clean everything. He never came back. I kept texting him to find out when he would come back to finish but he always had an excuse. Winter came and we got snow so I knew he couldn't do anything until it melted. On March 25 2026 I texted him to tell him that the block retaining wall was falling apart. The grout joints were falling out, I leaned against the top of the wall and the top cap came off. When the top cap came off, I found out that there was no rebar or concrete in the block cells. The only thing in the block cells was broken pieces of block. He had filled the cells with the trash blocks that were left over from the job. He said when he got some time he would come take a look. I told him I needed him tomorrow because I had a tractor and dirt coming to back fill what he didn't do it. He told me that he couldn't come that soon and if I put pressure against the wall it would come down and "it won't be on me". He said "when I am able to get to you I will". I haven't seen him. The retaining wall needed to be fixed, so I bought 53 bags of high strength concrete and started cleaning out the block of all the trash. I put rebar in and filled all the cells with concrete. I told him I wanted him to reimburse me for my time and labor. He said send me a list of what I did with pic's. I did. He said he would work something out with me and he would be in touch. I texted him 10 days later wondering when he would get back with me. I got another excuse. I texted him again 10 days later and I never heard from him again. I have had a lot of new concrete work done by another contractor. During that time, I have found that the concrete, James did, is not 4 inches thick and the month after the driveway was poured, it cracked in 2 places. One of the cracks started at a point where the slab is only 2 3\4 inches thick. I have a feeling that the other crack is in a thin place too. The new concrete contractor I hired said I got ripped off and the slabs need to be redone.
