Paid to have Black Lake Heating service our furnace as we have for years. Technician recommended to my wife that the ignitor be replaced. She agreed and it was replaced satisfactorily. We were very surprised when we got the bill for the replacement Over $400! And no itemization of charges. A couple of points: 1) Technician was already there so should be no service call. 2) Part can be purchased by anyone for less than $30. 3) Removal involves loosening two screws that hold ignitor in place and then unplugging wires. Installation involves plugging in wires and screwing in two screws. 10 minutes max. Less by some one who does it alot. That costs $400. Hmmâ ¦. They drive nice new trucks though! Haha!

I live in a 1971 mobile home. My hot water line broke off of my sink faucet and flooded my bathroom on 9/13/2024. I called Black Hills on 9/14/2024 after determining that I wouldn't be able to fix the plumbing myself. I told Black Hills that it was mobile home because sometimes plumbers and electricians won't touch mobile homes due to different types of standards. When Black Hills came out, I was greeted by Greg. He told me that I would have to go through a mitigation expert because the bathroom floor was too spongy (the flood happened three days prior) and potential black mold. They wanted me to replace my hot water heater, get new piping and a new faucet for this simple repair. So, I paid my $141.51 just for them to look at it and they referred me to a mitigation expert who came at the same day. The mitigation expert told me that all I needed to do was place a piece of plywood on the floor and didn't see any black mold and told me to go ahead and get the plumbing fixed. I bought the plywood to be placed on the floor and made an appointment online for Saturday morning (9/21/2024). Black Hills called me up and said they don't do weekends and the plywood was not enough. They wanted me to have the mitigation company to destroy my entire bathroom before they could work on it. They claimed it was an OSHA violation to do the plumbing. I promptly fired Black Hills and got another plumber, told them this story, and they told me they were willing to work on it by making a simple repair. The new plumber even came out for free just to look at it. Now I am out of $141.51+tax for work that never got done from Black Hills.

Our heat pump went out the other day providing no heat. We called Black Hills (who installed the system) to have a technician come out for diagnosis and repair. Their technician found a dust/hair clogged evap refrigerent cooler that caused high pressure that shut down the system. He showed us a picture he took of the situation. I asked if I could just clean it since It was assessable. He said we would ruin the fragile fins if we tried this. He said the only way to get us going again was to unbraze the evapcooler, clean and reinstall, and rebraze the unit. He estimated that this would cost $2,200. We paid their diagnosis fee and called another local heating company for another estimate. The other companyâ s technician found the clogged cooler, cleaned it without removing it, and found a high pressure switch that was stuck open. He repaired that and had our heat going again in less than an hour. Our cost with them was $208. So Black hills would have charged us $1992 more to get our heat going again. This is so outrageous, I canâ t hardly even believe it. I hope everyone sees these reviews and avoids this company.

OH. MY. GOSH. I don't think we've ever been dealt with by a customer with such professionalism, or a service tech with such proficiency and politeness. On top of that, the tech turned out to be an old acquaintance who knew me from thirteen years ago! SO cool! Nick did a fantastic job with our duct cleaning, and I do mean fantastic. He was exceedingly polite through and through, and it was a great experience. Black Hills themselves were very communicative, with great pricing, quick availability, and ease of communication throughout the process. They have a very polished intake, scheduling, and billing process which just blew me away. We're very grateful - we had a different vendor on the books and SO glad we cancelled and went with Black Hills. As a result, we'll also be going with them for their Comfort Pass monthly maintenance plan. Thank you Nick!!! Thank you Black Hills!!!
