The Young Bowman, Jacob, bid the job, we agreed to a particular amount. The work did not include building a retaining wall. The job was to excavate two drainage ditches, One excavated parking pad, and cutting removal of 20 sq feet of existing concrete. Also, install one 10 foot x 5inch drain, and two catch basins, and one water emitter. Next was another location on property to lightly excavate to pour concrete pad with sidewalk on a slight downward slope, affixing dirt to slope away from the house, and to fill-in and grade dirt on front of house tapering away from house. The job was also to involve moving tree stump grindings from yard, along with pile of dirt and cement residue. The young Jacob and his one laborer Daniel were to be onsite by 9 a.m., the first day, they chose not to come because it was raining 50 miles away where he lived, and chose not to contact me until mid day. Informing me his intention to be onsite the next day by 8 a.m., again they were late. There was no phone call, text, or email explaining his delay. He arrived after 11 a.m. and dug the two ditches without my knowledge of them being on site to work. After being on-site for two days, he informed me that I would need to pay the cement truck for the mortar, or I could give him the money and he would use his credit card to put up the security deposit as the cement people required. The next day, as the day progressed he said he needed $2500 for the work he had performed already,, and the cement truck would be here Tuesday and I would be paying for 15yards of cement plus his portion for the forming and I would have to pay extra for the half yard extra that he would need to form it the way we had already agreed upon for a certain amount. He said that he was loosing money and was $500 in the hole because of the time he was spending here. I talked with my wife and we decided to pay him more than what we agreed upon, and asked him to leave. Before I left to get him a bankers check for $2300, which is $600 more than our initial agreement of $1700 for his work and the remaining $2800 was for the cement and forming. He said they would spread some more dirt on the front of the house. The forming he had already completed I expected him to leave that, but while I was gone to the bank, he removed all the forming and did not spread any more dirt behind the bushes in front of the house. I regret not getting our deal in written form of his signature, I did have what we talked about with costs in my note book, yet he still reneged and kept telling me I was unprofessional and that I undermined him. I didn't think he was a very good time manager, nor was his customer service skills honest and of good repore.
