Tyler does a great job of staying on time and on budget.

We chose Brooks Construction based on a recommendation from a friend, and the general pricing was about right (Tyler Brooks, the owner, did a ballpark quote but we were billed on a time & materials basis). Before we were even halfway through with the renovation, we wished we hadn't. Tyler was doing a much bigger job at the same time and didn't have a sense of urgency to get our project done. It took more than twice as long for it to get done, and there were numerous delays caused by poor quality work that had to be redone, on almost every aspect of the job -- carpentry, drywall & mudding, painting, installation, etc. There was poor communication from Tyler and a lack of supervision of the crew, both his own crew and the subcontractors he used. The project dragged on and on and we nearly fired him several times, not just because of that, but because he didn't really take responsibility for the problems (he complained about having to fix problems that his crew caused! He even tried to blame some of it on us). Additionally, his crew damaged some things in our home and those had to be fixed as well. Working with Tyler was a constant source of frustration. It made me want to never do another renovation again, and we've done several Reno projects (both with contractors and by ourselves). The whole process for this project has left a bad taste in our mouths, and months later, I'm still irritated at all the issues we had to deal with. When the renovation project was finally done, it looked pretty good, but there are still some flaws that we decided to just either live with or fix on our own. We were tired of excuses, delays and having contractors making a mess in the house. We both work full-time and it was really inconvenient, how Tyler's last-minute scheduling changes threw our own schedules off. Bottom line, I would not recommend Brooks Construction. Tyler may have a lot of experience in construction, but he has poor communication and client service skills. And because he subcontracts most of the work, you are at the mercy of the schedules of the subcontractors, so your project will take longer than it should. It just isn't worth the hassle.

Excellent work, pleasure to work with them. The work area was always clean, cleaned up well after themselves. Always on time, work was completed in a timely manner.
