He called almost immediately and set up a time to do the estimate the next day. His helper did the job -- clean up leaves in very large backyard -- nicely and was careful to close all gates (dogs) when done.

He did not clean up very well. He doesn't have all the tools to do the work.

Brook under bid the total work + material costs. I ultimately had to keep track of his hours to provide him with a fair income. The one-bedroom job took two days longer that he planned - I believe it was due to his technique and rework. Brooks had a good attitude in dealing with my requests (primarily dealing with cleanliness) and criticisms. His add, touting "3 Generations of experience" did not represent what showed up at my house. Unfortunately, his previous experience was basically with new construction. Therefore, he had no knowledge how to work and protect a residence in which people are living. He had had laborers that cleaned up after he finished. (e.g. his dust, sloppy work, and dirty hands left the wood grain in an expensive oak panel door contaminated to the point that I still have not gotten it totally cleaned.) He was careless with his compound (threw excess onto the floor [to later step in it] or wiped it onto his pants), did not protect the floor with plastic, and contaminated our home with his shoes, hands, and dust. Quality: he did not check his work adequately: I had to deal with/repair many defects: outside corner beads that had a short/abrupt blend which the baseboard could not follow; several bulges and voids along taped joints; recessed screw heads; rough/pitted spots; and, a 12" tape bubble. All these showed up after painting when viewed with a low-angle light: I turned on my track lighting and the wall was a disaster. I gave him a list of things to do better next time, like covering the floor with plastic, wearing booties while working (taking them off when leaving the work area), sealing off the room to prevent spreading dust (he may have done this if I hadn't done it proactively), keeping his clothes and shoes clean in general., and cleaning up at the end of each day. I was anxious to give this young man a chance to build a business. I was a new contractor myself at one time. He had a good attitude, and will probably improve with each job. He stressed that if I had any problems after he left, to let him know. I decided to make the repairs myself, because I had already painted, and I was short on time. (I must say that sanding/filing the wall - already painted with Behr paint - was like sanding steel - very difficult to cut through the paint to the joint compound) I hope that Brook will take my suggestions, have more respect for the customer's home, improve his technique and self-inspection, and build a successful business.

"This is ridiculous. This job has been done for months. I am no longer working outside of Champaign County primarily for this reason. I am a professional Sheetrock installer or a drywall hanger, not a finisher. I hung and finished this job for 700 dollars. That is shipped cheap. This job was 1 hour and 45 minutes away. I lost money for this guy. He made up his own contract and Told me what he thinks I should be paid for. Laughable. Where I live in Champaign Illinois, I'm known for being a drywall hanger. My cousins had 2 separate business in town, one for Union and one for residential. It is a fact that I have 3 generations of drywall ha"

The job was to mud and smooth a kitchen ceiling where the popcorn had been scraped off. It also was to finish the sides and ceiling where a wall had been taken down. Both my husband and I thought the finished job looked great. I appreciated that Brooks worked with us on scheduling and always texted to tell us he was on his way. He seems to have a good work ethic always arriving prepared to get started .

He did not finish his job. I hired Brooks to tear out two rooms, install drywall, insulation and texture the two ceilings. I bought the supplies. Brooks complained so much about the tear out of the second room that I finally told him to just do the outside wall and the wall for the closet. I told him to not worry about a couple of holes at the bottom of the walls that were not torn out. My husband installed all the insulation. Brooks did not do any clean up. He refused to tear out the lathe that was under/part of the plaster. He refused to tape any joints where drywall met existing wall or any of the small closet that he installed. He was wasteful and sloppy. He destroyed several sheets of drywall and did not close the buckets of drywall so that was all wasted also. He did not show respect for our property. He left after half a day 3 or 4 times when there was work to do, then complained that the job took so long. I didn't feel that he was trust worthy. He was always telling me how broke he was and begging for cash money. We were not happy with his work ethic.

"The job was the only supposed to take five days. The first day was demolition. The second day was framing, insulating and drywall installation. Third was first and second coat of mud. Fourth day was third coat of mud. Fifth day with sanding and spot checking. I did insulate the job. They did insist on helping me through the whole thing. They would not let me help them choose what materials that we need. They bought sheet rock that was not durable. Upon application of an 8 foot sheet on the ceiling it snapped in half. If I were the one to have picked out the sheet rock like I suggested multiple times this would not have been a problem. The on"
