Electrical for Home Addition or Remodel - Install
$6,800
We had Chuck out to our house to help with some remodel wiring. We were quoted at 48 hours of work to get our job done. Little did we know that 48 hours would take a month due to him never showing up when he said he would. Example 1 says I'll be there at 9:30 am and shows up at 2 pm after my wife took a vacation day to be there. Every day he showed up at least 2 hours late and always had excuses. He charged us what I thought was a decent price if the end product was quality work. We talked with him at the end and said we would just not put a review since it seemed to be a quality install. A week later we noticed some outlets hanging out of walls and then we noticed he installed a regular plug for a GFCI dishwasher outlet while also drilling a hole through the corner of the wall base 2x4. We found that he tied multiple light switches in our kitchen together as well as installed a switch but didn't wire it. I fixed those issues myself. He never cleaned up after himself as well. Well today 12/24 is the final straw for us as we were trying to install a new laundry light we found there were extra wires in the light box. I pulled it down to find out what was going on and found a junction box in an enclosed ceiling that isn't secured to anything. It is wired wrong so now I have to cut holes in my freshly patched, primed and painted ceiling to figure out the issue. With all of this I am now concerned about all the other work he performed and may be hiring another electrician to go over everything. Do not use CHUCK HARRIS for any electrical work!!! You will regret it and pay more than you have to. This is the single worst experience dealing with someone in my life.

Electrical Switches, Outlets & Fixtures - Install or Repair
$2,000
I hired CMHarris in March because I was getting a replacement pool installed and needed to have work permits. I paid him 50% to seal the deal, when I was told that the pool was going to get installed I sent him an email, no response, I called several times, no response, I finally received an email indicating that he and his brother were at odds. He told me that he was going to do the job with another electrician and he did not want to lose my job. After several attempts to contact him, no response, I indicated that I wanted a refund and he told me that he was not responsible and to give me back the money, I indicated that I would take him to small claims courts, no response, I called the office too many times to count, I went to my bank to see if they could get me a refund they are working on I as I write this. I called Home Advisor and said that I wanted to give a bad review and they told me that they have received some good ones this June, I told the representative to call and I told them I would be a waste of time. The job was done by another electrician. To let everyone know the contact was started March, and I kept CMHarris informed of the date, the pool was installed this June. I purchased some electrical supplies from a local vendor and asking if they knew CMHarris they told me yes and that they were owed a lot of money from CMHarris, I would never deal with CMHarris again, all of this is true. I am still hoping that I get some of my money back.

Electrical Switches, Outlets & Fixtures - Install or Repair
$6,000
Charles Harris does not keep his promises, and there are workmanship issues. On March 8, he came out to give me an estimate, which was for almost $6,000, of which $3,477 was for materials. I paid him $3,477, but received a receipt for $3,400; I noted the error, and he corrected it. He said he would work on my job straight through, but later said he needed to go back to the office first to clear his schedule so that he could give my job his undivided attention. Over the next five work days (with a sixth day being out due to weather), he worked 18 hours. Each time, he came two to six hours later than promised and always offered a different excuse; his excuses made clear that I was not a priority customer. He kept careful track of his hours, but forgot to sign out the one time I was not home to check when he left. On March 14, he asked for the balance due for the entire job, even though his work was not finished. He said he would be back to finish early the next day. He came later in the day, worked for a few hours and left to do another job, saying he would be back early the following day. He again came later in the day, worked for a while, and said he needed to get home to the wife. In the absence of follow-up, I called him twelve days later; he said he would try to come back the next day and that he would call back within the hour. He didn't call and didn't come. Two and a half weeks later, he still had not called and had not returned calls. I finally left messages on his cell and at his office saying that I would be sending a review to Home Advisor that evening and that it might we best if he finished the work before I sent in the review. Not receiving a response, I texted him adding that I would have another electrician finish the work and would sue him in small claims court for the electricians charges. He called asking me not to send a bad review and promising to come the next day. (If he had at least kep this promise, I would have let the review go by the boards.) The next day, he begged off and said he would be there the following day between 9:00 and 10:00. At 2:00, he called to say he would be here in 15 minutes. He arrived at 4:00 and left at 6:30. Due to his late arrival, we had to cancel plans for the evening. The next morning, I discovered that he had left wires dangling from a ceiling in an active work area and also left several ceiling tiles ajar. I called him around 8:30 about leaving a wire dangling. Some hours later he called to say that the wire wasn't hot and that I should just shove it back. (Wouldn't a competent electrician first want to screwing on caps on the wires?) A portion of the work was never done. Some was done wrong and had to be corrected.
Response from C.M. Harris Electric, LLC
"Peter, we are sorry to hear that you feel this way. However, your statement of not keeping promises is very general as you do not know Charles personally. Also, we put a lot of focus into your job but we did have a panel fire that occurred between 11:00 PM and 3:00 AM as well as a hotel filled with 100's of people that had a power outage due to the snow. I know that this is not your problem, but we are a 24/7 emergency service company and our emergency calls require immediate attention as typically they put people's lives at risk. Additionally, Charles got very sick with bronchitis for over a week from working in the dangerous conditions of your attic and we made you aware of this. You might see these as excuses but an electrician is a human as well with a family and human needs. We wanted to keep our best crew on your job rather than put a secondary crew so that we could make sure your job was done correctly. Charles even tried to keep working during this sickness to get your job completed because you expressed no remorse. The work on your original estimate was completed in a timely fashion. Much of the work you are referring to in this review was added by you later and you refused to pay for it. Instead, you decided to threaten us with a bad review if we did not do this additional work for free. So, we did our best around the extenuating circumstances to make it back to your site and get the work done. At that point we had no interest in working for someone who would blackmail their contractor into doing work for free. Even after completing this work you went against your promise not to submit a negative review and did so anyway. The wire you mention was added as an extra service, per your request, so it could be hooked into the panel at a later point should you decide to expand. You also requested that we leave the ceiling open so that you could see it was installed. The work we completed was done according to the National Electrical Code, as is all our work. Once you brought in another electrician for the receptacle in your basement, which was also an addition, you began to spread liability. We will not work with another electrician that is outside of our entity as we have no way of knowing if he would perform the work properly. Also, we will not put our liability insurance on the line for someone when we have no knowledge of their background. For all we know, this outside electrician could change our work or intentionally mess something up to sabotage our company as a direct competitor. It is unfortunate that these circumstances occurred during your work but I assure you that this is not a typical occurrence. We are well known among our customers as delivering professional & quality services in a timely fashion. However, sometimes issues arise and things do not go as planned. We did our best to work around this and get your project completed, even the extras. But, as it goes, there's just no pleasing some people. Take care and best of luc"

I would have personally corrected the problem for my friend, if not for 1000 miles of distance, found this electrician on your site.......TOO! EXPENSIVE!!!...I could have done in 3 hours too, maybe with one arm tight around my back.
Response from C.M. Harris Electric, LLC
"Jorge, We are sorry you feel this way. However, we performed a service for Sandra Brown on your behalf for mistakes that you made. There are multiple issues at this location and we made this service a priority because you felt she was unsafe because of the work you completed. The real question here is; are you a licensed and insured electrician? If not, why are you performing electrical work that would put others lives at risk? The residence is located in Kennett Square PA, according to HomeAdvisor's statistic, the average cost to hire an electrician in Kennett is $363.00 for labor only. We came in at $240.00, labor only, to repair an issue which we had to replace a wire and fix a switch that you had installed. There is no way that you could judge our quality of work from 1,000 miles away, and it is doubtful that you could have fixed the issue with one arm "tight" behind your back considering we were there to fix your mistake. It's unfortunate that you would take time to insult a company which helped cover your mistake and protect someone which you put at risk. Take care and please do not perform unauthorized electrical work. This can often lead to personal injury and house fires. "Each year in the United States, arcing faults are responsible for starting more than 28,000 home fires, killing and injuring hundreds of people, and causing over $700 million in property damage. ... Sixty-five percent of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no working smoke detectors." -Electrical Safety Foundation International, 2015. https://www.homeadvisor.com/cost/electrical/hire-an-electrician/ http://www.esfi.org/resource/home-electrical-fires-184"

I have two pendant lights installed and a dimmer. The service was easy, professional, and timely. I will be using them again very soon. Also, I loved that they called me to let me know when the guys were being dispatched. The service men were very professional and I could pay online so no money was being transferred in person. I had five pot lights installed in my master bedroom by this company. There was a slight hiccup at the beginning of the job as the office had placed me on the schedule but hadn't notified the workers of when they were supposed to come out to my house. The owner Chuck took my phone call about two hours after they were supposed to start the job and he apologized profusely. He and his workers we're out at my house within the hour. They covered the stairs and treated my house with respect. The owner consulted with me before they installed the lights. He made the lights aesthetically pleasing and even installed a sixth light at no charge for being late to the job. I highly recommend C.M. Harris and look forward to having them back to do more work in the future.
