"Hurricane Milton brought strong winds to Florida for approximately eight hours. The storm made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on Florida's west coast and impacted us as a Category 2 on the east coast. This resulted in heavy rainfall, flooding, tornadoes, and storm surges. In Volusia County, sustained winds exceeded 80 to 100 miles per hour, accompanied by more than 12 inches of rain. Prolonged exposure to high winds can create pressure that strains the structure of fences. Additionally, heavy rain and flooding can disturb the soil around your fence posts, leading to instability and potentially causing a leaning fence. It's also important to consider that the direction of the wind can impact your property differently; if the wind hits your fence first, it may create a blockage for your neighbors, resulting in less damage to their property and more to yours. Hurricane Milton was classified as a major hurricane upon reaching Florida. As stated in our warranty, damage caused by Acts of God is not covered. I want to clarify that the fence you paid for does indeed have concrete at each post. You confirmed in your email that you observed us using 50-pound bags of concrete during the installation and had specific questions about the gate post, which contains 100 pounds. As we stated, all posts were secured with 50-pound bags, and the gate post received the additional 100 pounds, consistent with our standard installation practices. We have adhered to this method for years, and the unfortunate circumstances following the hurricane can lead to challenges similar to what you are experiencing. It's important to note that you are reaching out after a significant storm, and our warranty explicitly does not cover storm damage. Given that Florida has not experienced a major Category hurricane in over a decade, we have now researched and looked up ways to take additional steps to help existing and future customers prepare for future major hurricanes as Florida is now a very hot spot for them. However, we cannot control Mother Nature or its effects. To help minimize potential damage, we can reinforce your fence by adding over 100 pounds of concrete to each post and installing stiffeners for enhanced stability. Furthermore, I must address the tone and behavior evident in your communications with my team, which I find uncalled for. The level of disrespect and rudeness we have experienced is unacceptable. We believe it is best for both parties to part ways regarding any future work. We truly wish you the best moving forward. I also want to point out that you mentioned having to "babysit" the installation process. If it was not being done to your standards, why did you not speak up? We have made every effort to work with you, but you have been very disrespectful and hostile regarding circumstances beyond our control. You were aware that our warranty does not cover any damage following an Act of God, and given that, you should have reconsidered proceeding. You understood the terms. You expressed a desire for large gates, and we informed you that you might encounter flimsy options, to which you acknowledged. After experiencing a major storm -- something you had not encountered before, as you mentioned in your conversation with our office -- and given your unfamiliarity with hurricane strength and the damage it can cause, you now believe the issue lies with our workmanship. However, prior to Hurricane Milton, you never reached out to us via call, email, or any form of communication with your concerns."
"Thank you for your review. We explained to you that our warranty is covered by our installation work. You had us come out over a month later to look at the damage. You then proceed to explain to us that the gate hinge was broken due to your grandkids swinging on the gate. We are going to replace the hinges as a courtesy however there is a charge for the labor. You did not like that there was a charge, so you never called back. You called back months later due to the gate still being damaged and proceed to state we should cover it. We apologize you did not feel that we should charge for the labor to replace the hinges for improper use. Also, we were not able to get the hinges replaced by the manufacturer since this damage to the hinge was not caused by normal wear and tear. If you change your mind, we do have the hinges in stock and we will give them to you at no charge as a courtesy and you can install them yourself."
