In August, Mr. Jeff Jones replied to our request for a quote on Home Advisor to demo our in-ground pool and back patio, remove two crepe myrtles, level the yard, and lay out grass seed and straw. He was very competitive in his offer and promised to have the work done by the end of the week, with the exception of the ground settling, adding dirt, leveling, and laying straw and grass seed, which he said they would do roughly a month later. When Mr. Jonesâ crew arrived, Mr. Jones presented us with a paper invoice that did not have everything on it that we had verbally agreed to. We asked about the difference and Mr. Jones said he would have his wife send us an e-mail with the rest of the terms. We received the e-mail and were comfortable with going forward with the job at that time. In the email from Mr. Jonesâ wife, it stated that the crew would return on or before October 4th to go over the swimming pool area once it had settled, smooth out any rough spots in the pool area and yard, and then at the proper time they would put out grass seed and straw where the pool was and at the right side of the yard. Mr. Jones asked that we pay the first half of the quote at the end of the first day and the rest at the end of the second day. We donâ t regularly write checks so I had gone to the bank to purchase a few. I made the check out to Jeff Jones as it said on the invoice to do. Upon receiving the check, Mr. Jones apologized and asked that I rewrite the check out to his son. I crossed out Mr. Jonesâ s name, wrote his sonâ s name and initialed it but his son returned and said the bank would not accept it that way, (understandable, I suppose). When I explained to Mr. Jones that I would have to go to the bank to get another check he told me that I could just withdraw the amount in cash, which we were not comfortable doing as we preferred to have a paper trail. After about a month, we tried texting, calling, leaving voicemails, and then finally emailing before we heard back from Mr. Jones. He then came out to look at the yard, and even said that he would aerate the area before laying the grass seed, putting the straw out, and we discussed that the concrete rim of the pool is still visible which we are unhappy with. Since then, we have tried multiple to reach him, if he answered to set up a time to speak later, he wouldnâ t call back and then when we attempted to call him our calls would get sent to voicemail. We sent a certified letter at the end of November to the address that is listed on Home Advisor for the business asking for a partial return of our money or a completion of the job, but a month later it came back unable to forward, return to sender. In January, we sent the same terms in a text message since we were unable to reach him any other way and this was his reply to us: â See you in court then, we completed what we were hired to do plus some including trees and mounds you wanted leveled that we didnâ t charge for. Donâ t contact me anymore in anyway through text, phone call, email, social media or any other avenues or ill take it as harassment. We have a law firm on retainer and they will handle this from here, if we would charged you for the extra things we did you would owe us approximately $2000 above what you paid. Take careâ To note, we asked Mr. Jones to do NOTHING that had not already been discussed before he gave us a quote and everything that he says he did for extra without any additional charge is in the invoice. We have not heard from Mr. Jones in any way since January 9, 2019. We never tried to reach him on social media either. We have waited for him to correct this issue before taking legal action ourselves but there hasnâ t been any positive contact. All we wanted was the job to be completed as he had said for the price that we have already paid. Due to our experience, we do not recommend this company.
