Reached out for a quote because radon came back 4.4 during home inspection and Steve sounded very professional. He got back to me a few days later and gave a quote for $1,300, which I thought was good given that electrical was going to be included and it would start running the second it was installed. We originally scheduled for a Monday and were texted early this day stating he had to reschedule for Tuesday due to baby sitter availability and would give us a discount (no worries, stuff happens). On the day, he showed up 15 minutes late. He ended up installing the radon exhaust in an area of our partially finished basement (we had an unfinished area available) and the exhaust is about 12 feet vertical and 4.5 feet horizontal from our back deck. So while this may technically be compliant with guidelines, the sound of the fan while sitting in the back deck and radon likely exhausting down made our deck unusable. When questioning the location, he said he stood by the decision to utilize that spot. He said the desired spot (unfinished basement, not exhausting near the deck) could have been utilized but it would have required a longer exhaust and that his location was better. He claimed radon at the exhaust of the pipe would already be near negligent levels so I didn't need to worry about it coming down on the deck. He also stated the manometer, which is loosely put into a drilled hole in the exhaust in the basement, didn't need to be sealed into the radon exhaust pipe. He still charged us full price. He claimed he meant to give the discount and that his normal quote is higher than the one he gave me. He agreed to give a partial refund via Venmo for the over charge, but ultimately never followed through. After install he gave absolutely no paperwork and only a digital receipt that only showed a total amount paid and no other information. He eventually emailed over a contract/warranty 8 days later As the most quiet fan had a recall, he did claim he would come back and install a more quiet fan when available to make the system more tolerable. A month later, I emailed him asking if he had any of the new fans back in stock, no response. I followed up again 2 weeks later, and then he finally responds that he has some in stock and sets up appointment for the following week. The day of the appointment comes and he doesn't arrive. 2 and a half hours after appointment time, I reach out to him and ask if he's still coming, he stated he would not be able to make it and committed to come the next day. He came the next day and replaced the fan and said he would Venmo me the partial refund. He still never sent the refund. Too long, didn't read: Pros: Included a plug for electric Relatively quick install Licensed by NRPP/AARST Cons: Poor communication Unreliable Shoddy craftsmanship (unclean cut in basement ceiling tiles, unsealed manometer) Shady pricing practices Terrible location judgement I cannot recommend Steve Guilfoy/Certified Radon Solutions in any scenario. I'd stick with a professional company accredited by the BBB.
