Completely satisfied! John Phillips, Certified Retaining Walls owner, and his crew did an amazing job on my retaining wall. He was professional, courteous and extremely easy to work with. Along with being knowledgeable, creative and highly skilled, he was patient, answered any and all of my questions and explained the process to my satisfaction from start to finish. His crew was equally professional and courteous. They worked very hard on many aspects of the project, checked to see if I was happy with each stage and even cleaned up along the way and before leaving. I am so pleased with CRW that I requested a quote, for an additional project, before they left after completing my wall. I highly recommend CRW for your hardscape needs!

Honesty and integrity are John Phillips hallmarks. Our project was done during the pandemic in the dead of winter (January - February '21) when there weren't too many good days to work outside and when lots of the paving stones and pavers were on backorder. John did an outstanding job on the design and implementation and we how have a wonderful fire pit and paved patio as a result. Before starting a project, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Your yard will be damaged. Nobody likes to talk about this. John told us but we, like you, chose to minimize this. Budget for sod and someone to do the repair. Heavy machines resembling bulldozers will bring paving stones to the site. They will tear up your yard and the only good way to repair it is to put down sod. There will be additional expenses that aren't in the original quote. Plan on that and don't blame the contractor if you have design changes that require more materials. John will not nick you on these additional charges. He is fiar. Plan on the project taking longer than estimated. Neither you nor John can control the weather or backorders. But plan on having a project that exceeds all your expectations. John is that good.

Great team of guys to perform any concrete work needs you may have. I received an on-site quote the same day I requested it and the work was done quickly, efficiently, and it looks wonderful. Pricing was very competitive and the system they use for payment is super simple to use and makes for easy transactions and easy record keeping. Highly recommend!!

It's increasingly rare to be satisfied with home service companies these days. John responded quickly to my request, and he and his crew were professional and timely throughout the job. They were able to quickly correct the mistakes I made when trying to do the job myself, and my retaining walls look great now! Very friendly and professional. Would definitely hire again!

John and the guys did an excellent job on our concrete pavilion slab with integrated 6x6 posts. they had the equipment to ensure the posts were accurately located to make the follow-on construction easy. John was always available and responsive to questions and concerns and very easy to work with.

John and his company were hired to build a retaining wall around a new pool install. John was extremely accessible by phone, easy to contact, on time for estimate appoint and extremely reasonable with pricing. They finished the job AHEAD of schedule and did an incredible job. I would give my highest recommendations to John and his entire company. I would not hesitate to secure them again to do any work in their field of expertise. An A+ experience.

Hiring John Phillipsâ s company Certified Retaining Walls was a complete nightmare and has caused a lot of stress on my household. The short version Pros The wall was built quickly and other than some wobbly lose sections of cap blocks, the overall structure seems sturdy Cons Unsecured cap blocks. Shortens your wall than what was agreed Destroys yard & leaves mounds of gravel/ requires an additional hire to clean up because he puts a clause in his contract that heâ s not responsible Gave me his word he would fix my yard. Broke verbal/Written agreement Wasted months of my time when I couldâ ve hired someone else to regrade the yard. Charges for broken unused materials at the same rate as installed blocks Blew me off numerous occasions & ignored my messages No accountability / gaslights you into thinking it's your fault just for confronting him Hereâ s the story. Neighbors contracted him and he asked if I wanted to join as it would save us both money. I didnâ t research other contractors because I only had 24 hours to decide. He lives just down the road and I had seen his sign before, so we hired him. During the construction, our yard between our houses got trenched by his trucks due to frequent rain. When my blocks were delivered, he requested they be taken around the other side of the house which would have destroyed my whole yard. Thats when I knew he didnâ t care. After the wall was built, he told me he to my face he would fix my yard (and in text). While we were waiting for dirt from the builder, he tried taking some off the hill next to my house but the ground was too wet. Every week I would ask if he was available and when we got dry patches, he'd only be available the one day it was supposed to rain. That happened twice and I no longer think it was a coincidence. So we get dirt from the builder. Its no good. So my neighbor and I buy some dirt because John was unwilling to procure dirt for us. Up until this point I didnâ t blame John for any delays. However, the dirt was now here sitting in our yard for weeks, the weather was good and the excuses continued. I lost my patience and called him out on it. He told me I had a bad attitude and said he had other projects what were planned months out. Thats a load of crap. He got started on my wall in a week. My project came first but I paid him all his money and it was clear he didnâ t want to come back. I messaged him two weeks later (he ignored me). I messaged again. Still got blown off. Its July. I gave up. We hired a guy to clean his mess up and regrade our yard. I noticed there were more blocks on my bill than I had on my wall. This was when I found out he charges for broken materials (same costs as blocks installed). This was not clarified on my bill. And these were the cheapest blocks you can buy. He then used â my attitudeâ as the reason why he didnâ t fix my yard â for freeâ . He broke his agreement and tried gas lighting me into thinking it was my fault. Its July. This has been going on since February. I have the right to lose patience, especially when the other guy had no problem getting dirt and doing the job in no time. My neighbor refers his business to me, he gets two jobs in one, and thats what I get, a destroyed yard, a mess to clean up and broken promises. If you want a contractor that cuts corners, destroys your property, leaves a mess, wastes months of your time, charges for broken materials, and then blames it all on you, John is your guy. Word of mouth is everything. Iâ ve had several neighbors ask me about him and do you think I gave a good referral? No. He could have gained more business close to home but no. This is my first experience with a contractor as this is my first home. Iâ ve now learned a very expensive lesson on why everyone hates contractors and why they canâ t be trusted. Now its time to get a lawyer.

After 2 and half months and about 10 hours of work done, we paid half the money up front and never completed, we were charged for material we never received. He got rude with us when we tried to get the job done. He would tell us he was coming out and did not show up on multiple occasions, he never put rebar in the job, he cut every corner possible, and after 2 and half months he still has not completed the job. It has been the worse experience ever with a home repair job.

I hired John to fix some drainage issues and create a retaining wall in the backyard at the beginning of the pandemic. This of course complicated things such as timing, workers and materials. These things were not his fault and he was good to keep in contact help us feel up-to-date on the project. Any time I called he either answered or responded quickly. I would recommend John and his crew to my family & friends.

He is incompetent he is not qualified to do the job that he is advertising he can do, he is not professional and he argued with me to come to fix the mistake he did. He threatened he will file bankruptcy and that is why I agreed for him to come back. Even after the repair, my driveway is cracking up again.
Response from CRW-TN LLC
"Yes the concrete cured faster then we could catch it. I?ve been after a confirmation that you will be satisfied with the completion of our contract. This includes fixing the apron and a satisfactory finish on the driveway. We are all about making sure you are satisfied."
