In 2009, Charlotte Fence Builders installed a new split rail fence and by 2016 about half the "treated" wooden fence posts are rotting. Others have remarked on the poor quality of wood they used. They told me in 2009 the 'treated' wood fence should be good for "20+ years" and I only got 8 years out of this fence. Major disappointment. Because of this, I am not requesting a bid from Charlotte Fence Builders for the new aluminum fence I am getting. When I called them few years ago about the rotting posts they said "we charge $100 per fence post to replace" and no interest in making this right or making me a deal on a new fence.

"We are disappointed to learn of your issues with your fence that was installed in 2009. We have been using the same split rail fence for 30 years. It's called Judy's and almost all professional fence installers will use Judy's because of the quality. We only buy from a reputable fence supplier. Unfortunately, there may be unforeseen circumstances in the ground that are unknown. Standing water or drainage issues will cause wood posts to rot. Also, insects will cause posts to rot faster. Ants or termites will cause a lot of damage. We never promote a split rail fence lasting 20 years. It is a natural product and there is no way to determine future problems with a natural product in natural settings. We always honor manufacturer's warranties. No manufacturer offers a warranty on these products. As a company, we would have no doubt given a significant discount on an aluminum fence to you. We understand your frustration and would like the opportunity to help you."

I was very satisfied with the work. I actually changed the fence specs from split rail to metal fencing. The workmen did a good job and were willing to make revisions that we requested. I am very happy with the end result.
