Major Renovation - Multiple Rooms
$5,000,000
Hired inferior help and did not properly supervise his employees. Very quick to shift blame for issues caused by his inattention to work. Some of the choice words they may respond with about us are warranted. Our frustration level caused us to behave badly often. That saidâ ¦There were so many areas of complaint, so many issues. Many concerns, but highlighting only a few big ones in random order. Not one window installed in our home is level. Unqualified, uninsured sub- contractors were brought in multiple times. Slab doors we purchased were damaged - incorrectly notched and hung by a sub-contracted handyman. We had to advise Tim of the door hangerâ s inability to do the job because no one from Bain Builders bothered to come supervise, only coming to look when Tim asked via text how it was going and we advised that the man was doing poorly. The doors had to be removed, repaired, then replaced by another sublet contractor who while much more capable, was doing it as side work and could only work late at night at serious inconvenience to my family. Our bathroom had to be totally ripped out then redone after not leveling or pitching the floor properly. Shower did not drain. Tiles and shelving were not level. Again, Tim only acknowledged the problem when we called him out on it. He was continuing as if of the workmanship was not glaringly inferior. First sub-contracted tiler was not insured which we were advised of only because Tim was upset he was unable to recoup the money he paid out. This unnecessary delay forced us to have to secure a rental property for an extra month at considerable expense. We paid for, requested attic access pull down steps be installed. Tim advised us well after the access was completed that the only way to put steps in would be to pay an extra $1300 because only specialty steps would fit. We questioned this, were told by Tim that we authorized the opening so there was nothing else to be done. No answer to why the opening was not built to accommodate the standard steps that were part of our quote. Why we were not told the access would not accommodate standard steps when we were asked to inspect? Laundry room cabinet doors built by a subcontractor broke within 2 weeks. Bain installed our kitchen, designed by Lowes. I came the morning of the counter installation and told Mike that the cabinets were not level or square. Mike shared this with Tim who told me that â the counter top people will adjust. I had to leave, questioning, but (stupidly) trusting his words, only to come back a few days later to find out that was not the case. He not only did not advise us of the obvious problems, cabinet doors donâ t open, the bottom cabinets slope at the back & are not squared, in our absence he continued work, adding the back splash as if you we wouldnâ t notice. Then acted surprised and offended when we complained Tim brought in another cabinet installer to inspect as a 2nd opinion after we complained, who advised that the measurements and design/measurements done by Lowes were wrong causing the problems. Based on his findings Tim advised that the kitchen renovations should be stopped while we filed a complaint through Lowes. He did fully charge us though. While we did question his findings, being aware he was not willing to accept responsibility, we decided to follow the process. We took his information and submitted a claim through Lowes that was unsurprisingly denied 4 months later. Now back to fighting Bain Builders. The mess. Wires were left hanging from the street pole after being disconnected by his electricians. Bain Builders left materials thrown out the window behind our bushes. They left wood shavings, unused pieces of wood, cardboard boxes, Had to clean up ourselves and absorb the cost of a dumpster to do so. Do not hire Bain
