Here at Crawford Landscape and Design, Inc., we pride ourselves on doing quality work in a timely fashion. With over 14 years of experience, we are fully confident that we can handle your landscaping project. Mark Crawford has been working in the irrigation/landscaping business for the past 27y ears. He started working for Irrigation & Sprinkler Supply (ISS) at the age of 15. ISS was founded in 1968 by the Crawford family and was one of the largest suppliers of irrigation supplies in Southern Arizona. At the age of 18 Mark was working for Woody's Landscaping of Phoenix supervising a large portion of a project El Conquistador Golf Course in Tucson. He later worked for All Sprinklers in Arlington, Texas holding the position of foreman in their Commercial Division. After he returned to Tucson in 1988, he supervised projects for Rincon Landscaping and purchased the firm in 1989. In 2003 he changed the name to Crawford Landscaping & Design Inc. Mark has extensive knowledge in landscaping.

Brick and Stone Patios, Walks, and Steps Installation
With an upcoming wedding in the backyard and need for everyday wheelchair accessibility to the pool we were unsure of who to reach out to for help. Our neighbor referred Mark and his team to us who quickly got to work after doing some walk and talks about how to best set up what we need. Now we have a beautiful brick walkway that perfectly ramps up to a step my moms wheelchair couldnâ t get over and a gorgeous flag stone walkway and platform for our wedding ceremony along with a small planter bed weâ ve been wanting. Great work, done quickly. We are already making a list of future projects we can have Mark help us with later down the road!

We just completed an extensive renovation of our backyard with Crawford Landscaping and are extremely pleased with the project cost, the workmanship and the professional attitudes of Mark and his crew. Mark provided us with lots of great ideas for transforming our challenging backyard into a useful and beautiful outdoor living area. First came the hardscaping. We had a substantial retaining wall installed along with a flagstone walkway, three flagstone patio areas, an outdoor bbq area, a seating bench and steps to connect the patio areas along with a whimsical, free-form set of flagstone steps into the wash below. That was followed with the installation of 60+ desert appropriate plants and trees, irrigation and low voltage lighting, designed by Mark and his landscaper Allison. Our yard has been transformed both day and night and we love it all! Mark provided us with a detailed estimate upfront, based on our initial discussions, so there was no question about what was included in the initial price or when he was going to start the work. Of course, as the project evolved there were additional things we wanted to include that were not part of the initial estimate. Mark always had good ideas on what to do and was very prompt in providing us with additional estimates for these items so we could make informed decisions to move forward. Mark was onsite almost every day giving guidance to his crew members. He also listened patiently to any questions or concerns we might have. In working with Mark, we felt like we were all part of a team working towards a common goal of transforming our yard. When he was not onsite, he was readily available to us and his crew members via text or phone call to consult about the work. We found all of the workers to be skilled at their respective jobs. With so much flagstone being laid in our project, the stone mason played a critical role. His attention to detail was amazing. All of our flagstone areas are thoughtfully and beautifully laid and drain correctly. The general laborers stayed busy and worked hard throughout the day accomplishing the tasks Mark had laid out. Everyone arrived consistently and on time. We would definitely recommend Mark and his skilled crew to anyone looking for quality hardscaping or landscaping at a fair price. We intend to hire them again to transform our front yard.

Mark is a very personable guy. He was quite responsive when he needed to be. Unfortunately, the bid for our project was changed at least 3 times and by the time the final bill and all other charges were added, the cost of our project was double what we were told it would be. There were too many misunderstandings about what was included and what was not. The crew worked hard and the end result is good. We relied on his advice as to the *expert* as we were unfamiliar with landscaping the desert. We feel he took advantage of our inexperience and cut corners because he knew he could.

"Customer changed her mind 3 times, first she was going to use existing brick, then all new brick and then fractured rock. Customer ordered rock and was delivered we charged to put down rock. Customer was going to do rock after they did landscaping so, customer was responsible for some of the changes. Not sure what corners were since none was mentioned. We did not take advantage, we were just going along with what she wanted, but that changed her mind every time. Contract was given to her before the estimate was signed, the only thing that changed from the original estimate was we added $199.75 to spread her rock which was not in the original estimate. So estimate was not double only difference was $199.75."

Buyer beware! We were forced to fire Mark Crawford/Crawford Landscaping due to lack of performance and general incompetence. We had a backyard project that needed to be completed in just over 6 weeks time. Mark assured us that he could meet this schedule, and that he would start immediately on receipt of our down payment. So, we gave him the down payment --- and he promptly disappeared for 4 weeks, and no work was started. Once the project work finally did start: 1) Mark did not ever supply enough workers to make any significant progress on the project. We believe he had more quantity and quality of workers available, but was instead giving other projects a higher priority. 2) Mark repeatedly allowed unskilled workers to attempt tasks requiring specific skills, leading to excessive tear-out, re-work, and materials waste. 3) Mark did not personally supply nearly enough oversight/guidance to assist his workers, leading to numerous errors requiring re-work. 4) Due to all the mistakes being made from lack of supervision and guidance, we (as the homeowners/clients) had to become far too involved in monitoring the day-to-day project activities. As an example, a worker arbitrarily decided to modify the location of a concrete pad, and the modified location would have resulted in an electrical code violation upon city inspection. Fortunately, we were home and happened to notice the problem, and got the worker to correct the location of the pad before the concrete was poured. The reason we hired a contractor in the first place was so that we would NOT have to get involved and worry over all the small details of construction! Eventually, it became very clear that Mark had chosen to quickly take our down payment, but then not give any priority to our project, not supply enough workers, and completely ignore our project schedule. At this point we fired him --- we then estimated the value of the work completed, and asked him for a refund of the down payment above the estimated value (about a $4,000 refund). He gave us no real response for two weeks, then finally responded by claiming we owed him over $1,000 more than our estimate in -- questionable-- additional costs, and continued to refuse to refund any of the overpaid down payment because he was --still assessing additional charges-- In our opinion, this is a blatant, open-ended attempt to hold on to our money indefinitely (money that he no longer has any legitimate claim to) while he dreams up more and more bogus charges. Bottom line is --- if you still want to hire Mark Crawford after reading our experience above --- good luck to you, because you are going to need it!

"In Response to Review by Homeowner: Build Outdoor Kitchen We were terminate not fired, by email on April 14th, 2019 without warning or explanation. We feel that there are customers who are hard to please, and if customer would have written her concerns, we would have complied. She mentions that we did not supply enough workers, however every job that we do is usually 2 workers. That has been enough for several years. Incompetent employees the mason has been working in this field for 20 plus years and has completed many jobs and satisfactorily. As far as being unsupervised the owner is at the job site everyday laying out the task to be completed and making sure the materials to be used are on site. He does not have to supervise his employees he needs time to do estimates, etc. Usually we are doing one project at a time, but this instance we were working for a pool company and customer at the same time. It was the Pool Company that was behind and promised customer that they would be done by Easter. Customer was constantly micromanaging our employees to the point of distraction and employees were complaining about it. Changing her mind 3 times on the configuration of the travertine coping for pool. Pool company put the concrete pad in the wrong location from the plan so it was moved to comply with regulations. There was no written promise of time job was to be completed, we usually get a signed contract and ½ down deposit in order to put customer on calendar. No sure what she means by nothing happening for 4 weeks. We were completing other jobs that were before her. We responded to the customer promptly every time she emailed us, it might have been a few days. Customer put her own cost from what she said were our vendors there were two projects partially completed so it is hard to determine balance. Just wished she would have let us finish all of this would have been avoided. We have been in contact with Registrar of Contractors two times, and were told that because we were terminated, we did not have to sign anything or provide any information that customer requested.Received a letter May 10, 2019 from Arizona Registrar of Contractors that customers complaint was dismissed. The work performed for the Pool Company the travertine coping and flatwork were done to their satisfaction. We have suffered financial losses due to termination and hurting our relationship with Pool Company for future work this is the person who referred us to customer. Mark was the main landscaper over my project. He was friendly and knowledgeable and understood the vision I had for my brick paver-patio, fire pit, and bench plus artificial turf. There were initial delays due to bad weather but he was dependable with the dates we scheduled. My project included pulling weeds from my graveled back yard and adding a pre-emergent. At first I could not see evidence that the per-emergent had been applied. For some reason the first application did not prevent new weeds. I complained and thought I was done for since I had failed to get a written warranty on the job. I thought my calls for a return visit were being ignored but Mark came through and addressed my complaints. He explained that his crew had been very busy. He came back and re-treated the new weeds even though I was not home, and as an apology for taking a while he sprayed the front yard too (which was not a part of the contract) and fixed my door bell that was hanging out of its socket by the wires. I really appreciated that! My weeds have died. The fire pit is working great, and I am very pleased with my yard. It is beautiful!! would recommend this company and if I had another project I would hire them again!!

Mark was the contractor who responded most quickly to our request for a consultation on our backyard project. That quick response was impressive and continued throughout the project as he answered our questions, listened to our concerns and kept us informed. Our backyard looks beautiful. The work was done on time, on budget, professionally and beautifully. CLD was a joy to work with. Highly recommend.

Mark had excellent ideas and input as to what needed to be done. They insisted on creating the new waterfall in a central location different then what I had originally wanted. He could not have been more spot on and as a result the whole project came together and surpassed all of our expectations. He is especially good with flagstone and our new outdoor BBQ is awesome!

Robin their landscape designer is absolutely terrific! She will do everything possible to capture the image that you have in your mind. The crew is punctual and super super clean and very hardworking! The owner Mark totally listens and makes sure he gets everything down as you wish. I used them for my backyard and then called them back a 2nd time to completely do the front yard.

I had this company develop a landscape plan (Robin was great, plan was exactly to my wishes) install plants, decorative rock, irrigation, lighting, flagstone patio and walkways in April of 2016. I was very excited to get this project under way. Had a mishap with hitting an existing pool line, but this may not have been buried to code. Landscaper did pay for the repair, so this was good. However, the landscape wiring has never worked and after several attempts over a period of 6 months to get this and some minor issues repaired I have never received a response. I only received inquiries if I was ready to do phase two of the project, re- landscape the front yard. Now there is a major leak in the irrigation, and again I get no response to my request for service on this urgent issue; and my plants are dying. In troubleshooting the leak, I also noticed that when they replaced a very complicated control box per my request and reconnected the existing water sensor that the wiring connection was done poorly and has since disconnected. After several email attempts to get service without response, I have since contracted another landscape company to repair the leaks (which appear to be major) and to rerun the landscape lighting wiring. I am going to pay double for my lighting and will have a large bill to fix the irrigation system as well. Not to mention the huge water bills. I had planned to have my front yard re -landscaped by them, but after the poor customer service I would NOT hire this company again. Very disappointed with follow up service.

"Customer states that we provided lighting that was provided by another company it would have been their responsibility to make sure the lights work. Not sure if the leak in the irrigation was in the existing irrigation of we tied the new system into, on invoice we noted that any work to be done on the existing irrigation would be charged an additional fee. Plants are not guaranteed only up to 3 months. Job was completed in April 2016 and email that confirms the only issue she had was on some touch up on the deck. June 2016 email stated that lights didn't work that she had installed them herself. No emails mentioning lighting or irrigation after June of 2016."

Hired for grading in back yard. Install crushed stone to cover backyard. Install drip irrigation system. Trim existing shrubs. Install 14' diameter raised pad for future fire ring. Install flagstone walk to fire ring. Install wiring for lighting in front and rear yards. Install plumbing and electrical connections for future water feature near fire ring. Their "designer" came to the property twice but never brought any measurement tools. No surprise that not enough stone was installed. Workmanship was shoddy. Insufficient stone coverage - bare spots where we were told we'd have 1.5-2.0 inches of coverage. Fire ring pad has pavers around edge. They ended the paver run with a 1" piece of paver instead of a full block, placed right where the walkway meets ring. Deep, un-walkable valley created in side yard instead of correcting drainage problem as intended. This area still floods. Company fails to answer emails and phone calls. Owner didn't show twice for scheduled visits to correct problems. Now 8 months later and the work has still not been corrected. Owner just said "F--- you!" to me and then hung up on me when I called to complain about the no-shows. Scheduled to show up to work on corrections from 12pm to 1pm. Called at 2:30pm and got such an unprofessional response as that. All I have gotten is excuses, like the first no-show was because his crew didn't know my address. It's hard to believe that an owner would even say such a thing out loud. This company has my address, since they did the sloppy work at my address last January. A company that claims to want their customer to be completely satisfied would certainly not treat their customer in the manner they have. Bottom line - the most unprofessional operation I have ever dealt with. They took my money and failed to correct their sub-standard work.

"We have been to this customers property 2-3 times each time taking care each one of his concerns, however we have not been able to satisfy him. He is the property owner and it is occupied by a tenant and he is never in town to look at the work. He must be relying on his tenant to report and when we were told that he needed more rock found out it was for an area that originally had bamboo and wasn't covered by the contract. It isn't like we haven't tried to make him happy. Sometimes there are customers that you can't make happy. We tried."

This was the first big project for my house. I needed a block wall repaired, my yard leveled, and wanted a patio, synthetic grass, pavers, and gravel (both front and back). Mark was able to come out quickly and provide a bid. He was very helpful with the design of the yard. I received several bids on the work, and Mark offered the best price and quickest turnaround, without me having to compromise on anything I wanted. I absolutely love my new yard, it is exactly what I wanted, would highly recommend!!

My project was small compared to many that Crawford is involved in.. I didn't expect them to drop everything and come do mine.. And, I expressed that there was no big hurry.. They were fairly prompt in answering my calls and questions.. And, they showed up after rescheduling a couple of times.. Price was fair.. I would recommend them if time is not a priority.

Mark provided a detailed estimate when requested and performed the work as expected. It was a busy time of year, so scheduling was a challenge but Mark worked us in. We are very happy with our brick wall. I would hire Mark again!
