Cromwell's Concrete Construction

Matt and his crew installed a large patio and walk ways to our newly constructed house. The finished product came out better than we ever expected. His crew were here on time and worked 2 full days in the rain to prep our area for concrete. His crew were professional and had a great work ethic. I would definitely recommend him for any concrete work. We were extremely pleased.

These are seasoned pros. That's good and bad. The good: Matt is great to work with, reasonably priced, communicates well, and shows up when he says he's going to. He even came the day prior and previewed the job, which was placing and finishing a slab with footers. He's been at it a long while and really knows his stuff. The job turned out looking great. The two finishers did a great job and the surface of the slab is flat and looks great. It has a light broom finish. The Bad: The concrete came out of Stambaugh's in Union Bridge and apparently the driver "souped down/added water" to the mix before they arrived. The driver confirmed that. That gave Matt's guys an easy to work with consistency BUT who knows what the 25 yds. of 3500 psi concrete that I paid ($3,400) for actually turned out to be. That's just a bad practice in my opinion. I don't know if Matt requested that or the driver did it on his own, and I didn't ask. Also, they forgot one of the 4 x 8 sections of mesh, and bent up what they did install by walking around on it. It was bent up so much that they couldn't tool the control joints because the very heavy, expensive mesh (actually cattle fence sections) was actually now so close to the surface in spots that it was catching and hanging up their control joint tool. When Matt visited the day prior I offered to install and wire tie the mesh down prior to them pouring but he said it wasn't necessary. I regret taking that advice. I'm hoping that the mire mesh near the surface won't cause any future issues. Overall I think it'll be fine in spite of these factors, and it looks good. Matt's great to work with. I didn't mention that the reason I sought him out was that the original contractor kept delaying the job. Not so with Cromwell. If they say they'll be there they'll be there. These days that seems pretty hard to find. In Matt's defense they were pouring into my forms, so it's mostly on me for not having my mesh tied in. Also next time I will specify that I don't want my concrete mix "adjusted" and that I want to get what I paid for. Concrete isn't cheap.

Matt and his team were very professional. They worked long hours into the night to get the project done. We gave him ideas that we wanted for our patio and steps, which he accomplished and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely hire Cromwell's Concrete to do our next project hands down. These guys are awesome!!!

They were pricey but did good work.
