Custom Construction Group

This project was to replace and upgrade a front porch and add a roof over part of it, a 4 day project. Custom Construction, LLC, Debra Belew, owner, was granted a building permit on 3/11/19 and started work on 3/15/19. Demolition started on the 1st day and holes were dug and concrete piers were poured. Post placement and framing were started soon after. Stairs were built and the roof was framed in. Railings and decking were installed. On the afternoon of proposed completion, I was not on site but my wife was. It started to rain and Debra asked to have the balance paid, even though the project was not complete, claiming that she needed to make payroll. My wife relented. When I returned that evening, I noticed some elements that were lacking: 1) The tread heights of the stairs were way off-from top to bottom, they were 6-3/8&34;, 7&34;,7&34;,7,7&34; and 10&34;. The bottom step did not reach the brick landing as the existing had; 2) One of the 6x6 roof posts was badly gouged in 2 places. This is a post that visitors may have held onto as they entered the house. Big splinters may have resulted; 3) The replacement wheelchair ramp ended 3&34; above grade, making it impossible to get a wheelchair onto the ramp. Over a period of weeks, these deficiencies were redone. Again, the stairs and wheelchair ramp were removed and done over, and again neither the stairs nor the wheelchair ramp was correct. After this 2nd attempt, the County Building Inspector paid a visit, on 6/17/19, about 3 months after commencement of work. He listed 15 items that would not pass inspection. In addition to the stairs and the ramp, these were some of the things that he cited as needing correction, in no particular order: &34;Need hard surface landing level with the bottom of the ramp&34;, &34;No grippable handrail on stairs&34;, &34;No mechanical connections on rafters&34;, &34;All single beams need to be doubled&34;, &34;No hangers&34;, &34;No lags to porch roof&34;, &34;No mechanical connections between posts and beams", "Shingles not installed correctly", "No supports on end of ridge beam", "Steps to front porch are not a uniform rise". While this is not a complete list, it shows the quality of the work that Debra Belew and Custom Construction, LLC had done up to this point. More visits were made by Debra and her crew, during which corrections were made piecemeal. Eventually, a final inspection was approved late in the 3rd week of August, 2019. So, a project that was supposed to take 4 days lasted almost 4-1/2 months. While Debra presented herself well initially, it became obvious early on that she had very little knowledge of basic construction herself, leaving this to her "Foreman". Needless to say, we cannot recommend Debra Belew or Custom Construction, LLC for any construction projects being considered.

Contact was initially slow, but once we got past that, the work was exceptional and they came back a few times to repair small items that even we deemed were 'nit picky', but they fixed them anyway. Couldn't ask for a better contractor. She hires great people that do great work.

Had a very bad porch roof leak and clear evidence of rotted sub roofing. Within one day of my request for a quote CCG visited the site and gave me a very reasonable quote. Within one day of the quote CCG was on site and completed repairs in one day. As you would expect upon further exposure of the sub roof and supporting rafters the deterioration was more than what was estimated. However CCG only charged for the increased materials and no added labor charge. Moreover some other roof weak points were noted and additional sealing and vent boot installs were completed. Finally the new shingles were knitted very professionally with the existing shingles. I am retired from the facilities business and have extensive experience with roof repairs. CCG could not have been more thorough nor more professional. Very highly recommended!

When we first meet Debra and Steve we were impressed by their appearance of an honest hardworking company who listened to our needs. We were disappointed in the lack of responsiveness and ultimately the dishonesty. After signing a contract, cashing a 50% deposit and not meeting contract deadlines we were lied to on email that materials were ordered and would be delayed another 3 days when in truth no materials had been ordered. Impressions are they accepted more work than their company could handle, were not the experts in decking that they claimed to be and tried to cover unprofessionalism with dishonesty. Needless to say no work was started and now we are waiting to get our deposit back. Buyer beware.

In April 2018 we hired Custom Construction Group to build a 36' porch across the front of our home. The house presented a number of design challenges for Debra and her team. Custom Construction Group worked with us as a team, listening to our wants for the project and then adding their expertise to produce a wonderful, inviting outdoor living space. Custom Construction Group's quality work has greatly improved the appearance of our home, increased its value and enhanced the quality of our lives.

I hired Custom Construction Group to do the basement remodel. That involved complete remodel of the basement, addition of a bathroom ( with installation of a pump), a bedroom and some leaving space. They did a great job! Debra took into consideration of what exactly we want and delivered it! We changed several things on them during the project but they were kind and helpful about it. The whole project did take longer then planned but the end result was great. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a construction company, they deliver great work for a very good price.

They have loads of experience, and seem to be able to do just about anything. We had them demolish and replace a 400 sq. ft. deck, replace all our siding, repair/replace soffits & fascia boards, replace the roof, etc. Initially, we had hired them just to do the deck, but after working with Debra and Steve, we trusted them to handle all the other work. I'm keeping their number for any future work.
