I really cannot say enough good things about Custom Decks! We had a large existing wooden deck that had a number of issues (water seepage, runoff issues), was somewhat imposing in design where we wanted a much more open feeling, and had no stairs down to our back yard. Several firms came through, took a look, and concluded they did not know enough about the state of the deck to even give us a reliable quote. Custom decks (Dean) showed up, and their first question was What do you want to use it for, They never lost that focus on not just building something good, but making sure it was uniquely designed to our needs. We wanted to move to composites for lifetime value, and it turned out there were a number of challenges based on how the original deck was built - but they did the research, walked us through all the options, and ultimately came up with an Azek/Trex combination of options that will last many years and looks great. They led with design, and helped us think through how to create multiple different areas of the deck for different purposes (reading, coffee bar, table etc) that are specific to us and make it unique. They quoted us with realistic assumptions and clear indication of what would cause additional cost if they found things were worse underneath than they expected. They delivered great renderings and ran an issue-free planning/permit process with the council. It did take them a while to be able to start building, but it was completely worth the wait. Christian and Mateo were professional, friendly, very hard-working (they kept building when it snowed) - and they were quick to point out where they had options or show us how it would look one way vs. another as they were going, and get a decision where there was a preference choice. They were also problem-solvers - they found a number of significant unexpected issues with the old deck, proposed solutions, and still came in within 5% of the original budget. The end result is absolutely fantastic - more than we had envisaged, and with really nice craftsman touches. We are certain we have spent more time on the deck in the last 3 months than we did in the entire 7 years we have had the house before that. This was a big investment for us in the house, and Custom Decks really came through from start to finish. People talk about indoor/outdoor flow, but Custom Decks have changed the way we enjoy not just the deck but the entire back yard area. I would recommend this crew and the company without hesitation.

I DO NOT recommend Custom Decks. They may appear to be organized and professional during the sales phase, and I was told they value their employees, but in my experience, none of this is true. I hired them to replace an old cedar deck with TimberTech. Dale E. (President) was defensive when I complained about the demolished old deck being strewn all over my garden for days, and my yard used as a toilet. He finally had a dumpster and porta potty delivered a few days after I complained. These should have been provided for the workers when they started. One reason I hired them is that I was told they used only their own experienced crews, sometimes bringing them in from Denver. One of the 2 original workers was unable to work after about 3 days on the job, and Dale was surly and argumentative when I said I was not comfortable with their plan to pick up someone from in front of a hardware store. I was paying top dollar and expected trained, vetted, insured workers, as had been promised. The primary worker, Rigo, had to do heavy work alone, and eventually showed up with a few different helpers (from where?), but they were clearly untrained and were only able to assist him in minor ways. Despite the expensive *design* fee, the drawings were not professionally rendered. I asked for detailed drawings with specs and elevations but they never came. Turns out Rigo did not have any either. Rigo is charming and hardworking, but due to the lack of detailed plans, and adequate support and quality control, he made construction errors that I had to catch. Some were corrected, some I will have to live with. After paying top dollar, I do not have a top quality deck. I have had a lot of work done on my home, and hiring Dales company was the biggest mistake yet.

You were so thankful for all the extras that we threw in for free! I would like to clarify a few things based on your comments, maybe there were some misunderstandings. ~ We were able to start your project several days earlier than expected, unfortunately the company in charge of the dumpster is not a part of Custom Decks and was unable to get the dumpster out the same day that we were able to start (early) which resulted in us having to keep the old deck remnants on your property until the dumpster did arrive. I apologize that the dumpster did not get there in time for this to be avoided. ~ Once again, with us starting your project early the plans were not on site until the second day. Being that the first day is only a tear out, this would not have affected the building process. ~ We do not sub out any of our construction, Rigo and his helper are a part of Custom Decks and are very experienced and competent. There was a very unfortunate event on your project, Rigos helper broke his arm while building your deck and was indeed unable to return to work. In a pinch, Rigo enlisted the help of a friend with construction knowledge to finish your project rather than putting everything on hold. Being that Rigo was the lead builder and very experienced we were comfortable with this. ~ Dale would like to apologize for any "augmentative" discussions with you, this was not his intention. It is our goal to make you happy and we are sorry for any miscommunications. ~ All renderings and plans are done by our designer who has completed award-winning projects and draws up construction plans accepted by building departments across the country. We are sorry that you did not feel that they were up to par. ~ As for you receiving the plans, we sent the plans to you, via email, 3 days after tear down begun per your request. We do not usually send the plans to the customer unless requested. Upon receiving them you and our designer had a lengthy discussion by phone going over the plans to make sure everything was to your liking. You approved everything after the discussion. ~ We would also like to address the fact that after you expressed some minor frustrations with the delay of the dumpster, etc. we did give you several change orders at our expense, this would usually be something the customer would pay for. Hopefully, this clears some things up for you. Once again, we apologize for any shortcomings."

My former wood deck had partially collapsed. These guys were amazing, clearing out the old deck and replacing it with a wonderful Trex deck. The workmanship was beautiful! True professionals in every way, communication was excellent. I give them my highest recommendation, This Company and its employees were a delight to work with!

We replaced our wooden deck with Trex. Damian, Rigo and Bernie did a beautiful job building exactly what we wanted, including custom hogwire railing. They were easy to communicate with, reliable, and completely professional.

Dale and his team built an amazing deck for us! It included a stacked stone firepit with 700k BTU's! Yes, that is not a typo, it is awesome! The quality and craftsmanship of the deck and firepit is top notch. Dale was great to work with and answered the dozens of questions we had throughout the process. He was flexible and easy to work with and his crew was great. They finished early and we could not be happier with the results! Our realtor told us it has greatly increased the property value of our home.

Dale and team were truly amazing. They tore down the old decking and replaced with new. The quality of work was top notch and they even pushed to get it done within my tight time frame (before graduation)...as well as worked through some rain and snow! I love the new look, two-tone with a great privacy wall that they built for us as well. They worked around painters and landscapers -- can't thank them enough! I would highly recommend them - can't wait to start entertaining on our new deck.

Dale the owner was curtious,very knowledgeable about the product and helped us with the design and how we wanted the deck built they called before coming because we have dogs and finished when they said they would and did a beautiful job we even wanted some more railing added and they came within the next day and installed it. We would HIGHLY recommend Custom Decks!!

These guys did my deck in 2011....and they did an amazing job. We were very happy with the quality, meeting expectations, timely delivery, etc. I wish I had written a great review on them at the time. So why am I writing this review in 2015? We needed some help with furniture replacement (they had done original order) and also had a concern about something with the deck. They responded as quickly and professionally as if we were a new potential customer. It just reinforced that we made the right decision in selecting them to do our deck replacement

Dale was professional and personal. His honesty and integrity was refreshing. I have been in the design and construction business for over 30 years and can say this was a very good experience. The deck was exactly as promised and he beat the estimated start and completion time. Good weather helped, but the crew showed up exactly as scheduled and stayed with the project until completion. Now if it will stop snowing we can enjoy our wonderful deck. Thanks Dale.
