The owner Doug came out to my home. I was working from home so I walked around with him a little. Told him I wanted the estimate to include removal and replacement of all of the rotten siding and trim, fence on both sides, and the back door (frame included). I also asked that he include a second estimate to include removing and replacing all of the sidings on the home along with the other repairs listed above. He told me the flashing would have to be replaced on the backside also and I agreed, I wanted half of the job done immediately, and the second half next month. I was told they could start the first half on April 28th. His office sent over the contract for signature. It included the price for the first half of the work and listed the second half of the work. I asked that the contract only include pricing for the first half. It was revised and sent over to me for signature. The crew showed up Tuesday, April 28th to begin the work. Around 4 pm I received a knock on the door from one of them telling me they were done for the day and was told to get a check from me for half of the repair estimate. I saw that they had completed most of the work on the backside of the home, and asked them about the overhang on the backside because they had not touched that part. I was told they were not informed to fix that. I told him I was not told at any time to pay for half of the job upfront. The gentleman called his boss and a few minutes later, I received a call from one of the young ladies I had spoken with numerous times. She told me they were supposed to get the payment when they arrived for supplies. I told her out of all the communications we have had, no one mentioned paying half the job upfront. I let her know if they had, I would not have hired them because I would not have paid for work that has not been completed. I also told her it was not in the contract. She told me Doug (owner) would come with the crew the next day to explain things, and to talk to me about the question I had about any work that was to be done. Doug showed up Wednesday alone. He told me they require half of the payment upfront for the material. I told him the same thing I told the young lady. He told me I could pay when the job is complete, and that the workers would not be coming today because the rain was in the forecast. I then asked about the overhang. He told me he did not include it in the estimate. The overhang was rotted more than any part of the back of the house, and there?s no way it could have been missed. He wanted additional monies to fix it. His workers were very polite and did a great job. But, I will not be using them for the second half because I know the overhang was included in the estimate. I feel I paid for it twice. Customer Service and treating people fair is everything to me. I wish I could upload a photo of the overhang to show how obvious the rot was. Again, the workmanship was great. I hate I had to make the decision not to use their services for the second half, but integrity means the world to me.
