Daniel Karpen, Professional Engineer & Consultant, P.C. provides quality work to our customers making sure that they are satisfied with what we provide to them. I can schedule appointments sometimes the same day you contact Home Advisor if I am available. Telephone consultations are free to determine the scope of professional services required for your project. All reports are prepared within 24 hours of a site visit, and all clients receive 2 copies of all reports. I am providing inspections of residences and businesses damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Inspection work includes examining foundations and preparing detailed reports describing the damage to be submitted to your insurance company and to your tax assessor to have your property taxes reduced. Inspections include an assessment of the mold in the building. All appointments are scheduled with a minimum of two hours of consultation time. Where applicable, all appointments include providing an energy audit as part of the service.

Complete Home Inspection
Mr. Karpen is a very knowledgeable Professional Engineer who answered all my questions and researched those things he did not readily have an answer for. My needs were very much geared towards structural and code questions about the property we were buying and Mr. Karpen did get satisfactory answers to all. We specifically needed a P.E. and not just someone with a Home Inspection certification and that is why we hired Mr. Karpen.

Complete Home Inspection
Daniel saved us from buying what would of been a nightmare. I do not believe a "house inspector" would of been able to see the issues he saw. I will use him again.

I found the consultant unprofessional, unequipped, and inefficient. I had to ask him to check for things like garage door, and appliances. My main concern was for the pool to be inspected which is not qualified to do. A real waste of my time and money

"My cllient wanted me to inspect a swimming pool. I noted that the pool heater had been disconnected and was probably defective. I also noted that the pool water level was below the intake, so I could not turn on the pool pump to determine if it was functional. My client wanted to blame me for these problems."

Besides unprofessional appearance he collected $500 consultation fee up front, than he agreed that some projects I wanted can be done can be done. After several days I called him as progress on the project he informed over the phone that we feels that supporting wall is structurally unsound no written report of findings/inspection written or given to me. He was total waste of money

"The client wanted to modify a rear brick wall which was severely cracked in a manner which may have resulted in a partial collapse and I advised him verbally not to do so. The client also was advised verbally that there was an illegal wood deck at the rear of the building that was built in violation of the Building Code of the City of New York."

"She wanted to convert a single family house into a two family house. The process is very time consuming and very expensive. She also had an illegally installed boiler without a permit from the New York City Department of Buildings. Her house had asbestos floor tiles, which would have to be removed prior to filing a building permit application to convert from a single family to a two family."

Daniel showed up on time (early actually) and performed the task needed methodically & conscientiousy. He knows all you need to about building codes, permits and his estimated cost of the project was reasonably close, providing you don't add to the project without informing him. He explains what his charges cover and he welcomes future phone calls for any other questions you may have about your project. The only negative is I would have preferred a printed version of the final report, trying to read other folks hand writing can be challenging.

Mr Karpen was called to evaluate a structure on our property. He designed a system of reinforcements to keep the structure from failing. He then recommended a contractor. We were 100% pleased with Mr. Karpen's expertise and the value that he delivered for his service. He was professional, on time, and did everything he said he was going to do. Would highly recommend.
