This review of Design Works Landscaping is my view as an owner who resides in medium/large size condo development, not and individual customer – It’s a bit long, but I wanted to provide a view of all the services they provided over a period of eight months, including the back-story of their hiring.
About 2 ½ years ago my wife and I moved into the development and during the first half year we easily recognized that the work done by the previous landscape vendor was pretty poor. The second year produced similar results and they became the conversation at many meetings to the point where our management said they would be looking for a new vendor as the grounds had lost their appeal.
This past spring we were introduced to Design Works at an open meeting where they met the residents and answered question about the services that they would provide and how they would resurrect the property. We were made aware that this was Design Works first time taking on a property of this type, as previous clients consisted of individual home owners or small businesses. My wife and I left the meeting with high hopes.
At a follow-up home-owners meeting, many residents voiced excitement over the fact that Design Works was being brought on and everyone looked forward to better landscaping. We were asked by the management team to give them some time to learn the property before we passed judgement.
The first month or so went by and the work was about average, with tasks consisting of spring clean-up and mowing – I did see them on the property frequently doing a lot of discovery work especially around the irrigation system
Around mid-May, there was noticeable work starting on the irrigation system which continued through the summer – the system was old and tired and the previous vendor didn’t do much to fix it.
Fast forward to last week where Design Works closed-up the property for the season. I would like to provide a summary of my first-years experience in the 5 main areas where they provided landscape services:
Weekly mowing – I found the work of the team (Aiden, Jose, Juan, Gio) to be mostly consistent with the property always being clean before they left. As they moved about the property doing their job, they were always courteous and respectful of the residents. = 4*
Irrigation system evaluation, updates, and maintenance – our Account Director (Cory) exhaustively studied the system, fully evaluating the entire system, to the point of mapping every irrigation head on the property (probably well over 1000). He made recommendations to management for improvements and replacement of outdated equipment. He and the team replaced and adjusted heads, and fine-tuned the system and watering schedule to optimize its effectiveness. By the end of the season, the improvements were starting to show and I expect they will continue into next year. = 5*
Mulch installation, bed edging, and preparation – another area of excellence here, the team took time to painstakingly edge and clean out every planting bed on the property and when it came time to mulch, it was put down by hand - pretty impressive, very clean and neat, in comparison to the blown in way most vendors use. = 5*
Fall shut-down – This work was also first rate, starting with a pre-winter short cut mowing followed up by a deep cleaning of all debris, leaves, etc., the end result was excellent. = 5*
Customer service – While I did not have frequent interaction with anyone from Design Works, when I did, I found that Cory and Chris (Team Leader) happily to listen and tried their best to answer questions and address any concerns. =5*
