QUALITY WORK & EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We had a new roof put on last summer which had not been completed in a single day. The roofer had put a tarp over the unfinished portion of the roof because of impending rain, but apparently never ensured the wood was dry before completing the roof the next morning. As a result, moisture had been sealed in, leading to mold growth which became first became noticeable when the weather turned warm the following spring (there was a stale odor in my closet). By June, I had to leave the house because I was experiencing a severe allergic reaction (my body swelled up and I couldn't breathe). Thus, began our search for help in diagnosing and resolving the toxic situation. First, we hired an air quality specialist (AQS), whose test results showed significant mold was present. However, he never went into the attic, despite my insistence that it was the source of the problem (based on a gap in my closet which was exposed to the attic and the original source of odor). Out of the 3 remediation company referrals provided by Home Advisor, Don, from DEC Remediation, was the ONLY one who actually performed a thorough inspection (which included the attic)! When I had mentioned that the attic had not been tested by the AQS, Don told me that he only used the AQS report as a guidelineâÂÂthere had to be a moisture source. He crawled around a very hot attic for at least 20 minutes, pulling back insulation, and took a bunch of pictures showing the locations of visible water damage and mold. He worked with us to provide the necessary remediation while keeping costs to a minimum. He even worked with our insurance company to help us get some compensation for the damage. Don had been the first remediation appointment of the day, and spent over an hour inspecting the affected room and then discussing his findings. The 2nd company's rep who came to the house spent about 10 minutes. He had poked his head in the attic and stated he didn't see any visible water damage (I had already seen about 20 photos showing the damage/mold). The 3rd company's rep, who bragged about his over 160 positive reviews when we spoke on the phone, walked around a darkened room (7:30pm) for about 5 minutes. When I inquired about the attic, he stated he'd address that if they found mold during the "cleaning" he proposed. Both the 2nd and 3rd "experts" basically wanted to put a band-aid on a gaping, infected wound. Cleaning the room's surfaces was not going to eliminate/remediate the damage in the attic. After the 3rd guy left, we looked at each other and, in unison, stated #1 (Don from DEC Remediation). Don and his associates, Bob and Ryan, were very thorough in the remediation work they performed, which included the source of the problemâÂÂthe water-damaged attic. Part of that work also included replacing the walls and ceiling of my walk-in closet. I was about to purchase a closet system, when Bob surprised us with a double-width
