Ryan was coming over to give me a free quote for the paining job. The day of the appointment I found myself in need of a small toilet repair (2 screws that hold the tank to the toilet needed replacement). I asked if he could do that while he was coming over to do the quote and he agreed (my bad for not asking how much he would charge me for this). The good points - he was on time and the toilet no longer leaks. The bad points: 1. job site left extremely dirty (Ryan's explantation - he didn't know how to operate my standard shower to clean up…) 2. for 10 min of work the charge was $90 - that included $25 driving fee (that is where i have a particular problem - he was coming out for free to give me a quote on another job - he could've left 10 min earlier with nothing). No, i didn't expect no charge, but thought that 1 hr min charge plus a driving fee was very opportunistic given this situation. Incidentally, his estimate for the paint job was twice as much as other reputable contracts.
