"I'll start by saying I try very hard to please every customer I work for, I will try to reply to each point made in order. I told her I thought 5 gal. would be enough but it's best to have some extra to avoid down time, and that she should get pre tinted stain and not the type you have to have mixed so that it can be returned. This is what I have told every customer for the last 20 years and am 100% sure I said the same to her. Yes I do have the customer get the stain as some people are very picky about what is used and also they can pick the color they want and the brand that best fits their budget. Plus I don't mark up materials like most contractors do to hide the fact they are padding the bill. I do not recommend one over the other she asked me and I said Behr made a good stain at a fair price (again talking about the pre tinted), I also tell them to talk the the paint/stain person at the store they go to. After power washing she texted me to say how great the deck looked so at that point she was happy. I show up the next day and everything is going well I blow off the deck and tape off the house then go to open up the stain which is the type you have to tint yourself and it's not tinted. I tell her and she ask if we needed to reschedule to which I reply no if you can go get it tinted or buy something else already mixed, she says ok. Then after about 10 to 15 min. she asked if I could run and do it, I say no I can't pick a color for you. I and my employee sit around with nothing to do for about an hour which I do not charge her for even though it put me behind on my schedule. I did have trouble with the stain which was foamy and thick (I never worked with or seen this before) I ask her to come out and look at an area we did to make sure so likes the look which she says it looks good. After trying the stain in my sparyer for another 15 min. I run out and buy (at my expense) another sparyer that works with that type of stain. After we are done and cleaned up I call her out and she says the deck looks awesome, she is very happy. I then tell her we have a lot of stain left over and her mood changes instantly and says what am I supposed to do with this, to which I tell her to keep it in her basement not the garage and it should last a year and they can use it next year for a touch up coat. I never changed my story or what I said. I am sorry she either didn't hear me or didn't rely the info to her husband (the person who went and bought the stain) and they have some left over. But agian if stored right it will last a while and can be used next year. And I am very sorry that even though we did a great job (her words) on the deck she now has bad feelings about the overall job. But I stand by my over all rating on this site and the hundreds of customers I help who are happy every year."
"It's hard to address this issue since no name was left and I am not sure which project this was or when it was done. We have not done a kitchen tile job in over a year, I do remember having an issue with one project back then though. The customer did not want to do a total removal of the old floor because of cost, they were informed of the potential issues of doing the project this way. They wanted to move forward anyways so we only removed 1 old layer of flooring and laid new down cement board and tiled along with grout. There was movement in the floor from having not removed all the old layers, we did make 2 trips back there trying to fix the issue. When we left the last time the customer was not happy but said they understood why it was happening. I do find it odd that they waited over a year to say anything, also we had done other projects at their house which they were very pleased with. We have been in business over 20 years and have 1 of the highest ratings on Home Advisors a along with other sites, I try very hard to make every customer happy and satisfied. Unfortunately when you have been in business this long and helped as many people as we have some times you can't please everyone. Like I said if this is the job the person is talking about it was over a year ago and it's the first I am hearing of it now."
