"Kendrick, I believe I sent an email to you regarding this matter but let me respond again in case it didn't get to you. First off let me thank you for sharing your thoughts. Customer feedback is the best way for us to continue to work on and improve the level of service we provide to our customers. I understand based on what you shared that you feel you may have been overcharged. Let me share with you some further insight regarding how we price as well as another perspective on what we found and the subsequent services we provided. Your Technician Jon performed a 10 point safety inspection which is a standard part of our service offering. This what the $39 fee is for. Rest assured you are not ?paying a service inspection fee for nothing?. During that inspection, Jon found 2 things that warranted the cleaning, first the vacuum reading in your dryer was a .57 which is lower than normal. A .8 would be considered acceptable. The vacuum created by the dryer is the strength at which the dryer expels the hot moist air from your dryer. 2nd he found the air flow, or wind speed at the dryer vent on the outside of your home to be 14.3 mph. A normal reading is anything over 15 mph. All of the other 8 points of the inspection were fine. Not surprising since your home is only 2 years old. After Jon completed the cleaning he re-checked the readings and found that the vacuum in your dryer jumped to a 1.18, more than double the initial reading and the air flow at the dryer vent was 17.2 mph. After the cleaning was performed these readings increased by 107% and 20% respectively. This is considered a significant improvement. Lastly our prices are based on the length of the line and the above ground height of the dryer vent. The amount of work involved is the same. The amount of lint is not a factor. Based on the before and after readings mentioned above, there was definitely an issue. Sometimes a small amount of lint can cause a blockage and lead to a significant performance and or safety issue. It sounds like in your case you were wise to have us clean the vent before any issues could occur. I can't speak to what others charge and I always find it interesting that they are willing to provide estimates without having any idea of what they might be dealing with when they arrive at a customer's home. I can say however, that many of my customers have shared with me that they aren't nearly as thorough or efficient as we are. Lastly, and most importantly l can assure your that there is ZERO dishonesty in anything that we do. I do not run my business that way. I run background checks on all of my technicians before I hire them and monitor their work closely to ensure high service level standards are maintained. With regard to Jon, he was honorably discharged from the Marines last year after serving our country for four years. I don't believe dishonesty is a core value of the Marine Corp.
