Ducker Drafting and Design, LLC

We hired Brent Ducker three years ago for some drawings to remodel the back of our house. Three years later after so many headaches and rejection from the city to obtain a permit, we withdrew our plans from him, He is very unprofessional and belligerent. He takes months to complete a small change. Stay as far as possible from him!

Project Timeframe: April 2022-September 2022 Cost: $4500 Project details: Garage conversion to master bedroom and bathroom Size: 400 sq. feet I had a nearly identical experience as the previous review by Michael P. except I didn't get my money back and endured the suffering for an additional 3 months until my plans were complete and submitted to the county of Sacramento. This was a classic over promised and under delivered situation. Time was extremely important in my decision making process and Chad, the "project manager:, estimated my "easy" project would take 4-6 weeks. It took 12 weeks to get a a minimally detailed set of plans and what a disappointment it was. There were several issues pointed regarding design and structural with several important missing details. Brent, the owner, clearly hadn't reviewed the plans and was highly unprofessional in our meeting. It took another 4+ weeks to get the final plans. They are great on the phone in the beginning answering every question, phone call, and text, but as soon as the collect your deposit it is very difficult to get ahold of them. I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Other companies were 1-2k cheaper and were more honest and transparent with their work. Positive note: Brent did follow-up a couple months after asking if he could be of any assistance/follow-up questions. It was very surprising after our previous half dozen conversations, but it was appreciated.

I hired Ducker Drafting and Design to create design and engineering plans for submittal to the City of Sacramento for a permit for my room/kitchen addition. Contact was almost instant. They promptly sent out Chad for the initial meeting and review of the project. Chad informed me that their company could produce everything needed for submittal to the City for the permit. He informed me that the company required a deposit of $2745.00 in order to begin work. This was in September of 2022 he said the project would take four to six weeks to complete. There was minimal contact and at the end of six weeks I was shown an odd drawing / version of what I had requested. After Zoom Calls, e-mails and texts, I was then shown a plan that resembled what I had given them at the beginning of the project. It lacked framing detail or engineering. I contacted Brent in mid-January about the job abandonment. He agreed to refund my money. Then silence once again. At the beginning of February, I contacted Home Advisor. They took this issue very seriously. Within a few hours Bent sent the refund.

I am so glad we went with Ducker Drafting even though I was a little hesitant due to the mixed reviews. It was a pleasure working with Chad. He came out the same week I spoke to him over the phone. We had two revisions, but we were still able to get our plans approved within our timeframe. It saved us the headache of trying to figure everything out on our own. Highly recommend.

They were quick to respond and arrange an initial and follow up appointments.

Once I paid the initial never heard from him again, and once he said to stop calling him, he is not a good person.

Did a great job on plans!

It took a bit over 8 months to get my plans, even tho we submitted the main house plan first, of footprint, and measurements. It is an old home, with lots of problems, but he never even came to look until after 6 months, and incomplete plans. His helper came, but the information never was understood, or was forgotten. He wrote cease and desist letter, when after 6 months, I inquired when I would get the plans. Even after he came out, I had to send drawings of where the ductless heaters and hot water heater are located. He could never remember, that the central heat, was replaced with ductless, when we installed solar. After 8 months, I got a letter, how I, as Christian, was not loving my neighbor. In response to my inquiries, as to completion of plans. Three sets were submitted and rejected by county. I had to send e mail and pay for, and put together each set. No help from Ducker. It was a terrible experience, and costly. My carport had to be engineered. He said it would not cost much. The bill was $1000. His helper was kind and tried to help, but could not manage Ducker. He, the helper, did try to help me get the plans together.

Very reasonable

Came out right away and had the job drawn and sent to the engineer in just a couple of days. Very efficient.

I've used a number of companies that do what he does, and he is able to get me projects faster than other companies. His turn around time is great!
