We had a very positive experience with Baird Drain Service on what turned into a complicated main sewer-line blockage.
We had sewage backing up into the house and no visible cleanout at the front of the property. On their first visit, they tried to clear the blockage using access from the roof, but the obstruction was too significant. The next recommendation was to excavate the affected area and replace a section of the main line. Before proceeding, I independently checked the proposed work with a neighbor who is also a plumber, and he felt the recommendation and scope were reasonable.
We signed the work order, paid a deposit, and Baird returned on a second day and began the excavation.
Then came a surprise—but, unusually, it was a surprise that ultimately reduced the scope of the job rather than increased it.
While digging, they discovered an old plastic cleanout that had been buried underground. I asked whether they could try using it before going ahead with the contracted pipe replacement. They agreed without fuss. Through that access they were able to remove very large pieces of roots and debris, pressure-clean the line, and get everything flowing properly again without replacing the pipe.
I had already committed to the larger job in a signed work order. They could easily have insisted on proceeding with the contracted work, or the situation could have turned into an uncomfortable discussion about second opinions, deposits, scope, or fees. None of that happened. We had a very straightforward conversation, agreed on a substantially reduced final price reflecting the work that was actually needed, and moved forward.
They also went to Home Depot for the necessary parts and extended the previously buried cleanout up to an accessible level so that future service will be much easier.
How often does a contractor tell you, “We found a surprise,” and the surprise leads to a lower bill rather than an upsell?
That was the part of the experience I appreciated most. The original recommendation made sense based on what could be seen at the time, but when new information changed the situation, Baird adjusted the work accordingly rather than doing more simply because it had already been authorized.
Two visits, a difficult blockage, significant root removal, excavation, pressure cleaning, and ultimately a much better long-term access point to our sewer line—all handled professionally and with a very reasonable approach when the circumstances changed.
Based on our experience, I would absolutely use Baird Drain Service again.
