Kitchen - Remodel
$190,000
Ed came to work with us through Home Adviser. He provided a $17,000 quote to do the complete kitchen. He took $14,000 as advance and drew cash from the bank. He placed the orders for the cabinets with Lowes and for Granite with a granite company. He said the work will take between 1 to two weeks. He came one day and ripped apart the kitchen. He had said that he will take care of the minor plumbing and electrical work. He didn't know what to do, and left leaking pipes that we had to pay plumbers about $600. He advised us to move the fridge, but hadn't anticipated that the damage would cause re-flooring. We didn't wish to move the fridge if it required re flooring. We bought him the floor separately. He later said he had talked about tiles but did not include them in the price. We had no choice but to buy the stuff, as he was otherwise going to abandon the project midway. He then under some excuse or the other delayed the project by requiring full satisfaction with the door company that he had ordered from through Lowes. When it reached five months I gave him an ultimatum that if he does not finish by a date, I will consider the project abandoned. He called one week after the last date to tell me that he will complete the two cabinet doors provided I paid him 4500$ for flooring and wall tiles work. He never completed the project. We gave him a chance that he had promised a complete kitchen and not delivered. If he is asking for additional money for additional work, then he has to provide us full disclosure as to component and labor cost and we can discuss. Anybody heard $4500 for 144 sq foot flooring and 300 sq foot tiling? Is this blackmail? His work is shoddy. The crowns are all fixed with daylight visible between the body and crown. Let readers decide whether they should ever work with this guy.
