I am a contractor in another state temporarily here in Omaha helping a family member ready their house for sale. Denis, of Elements Carpet Cleaning, was hired June 09, 2019, to clean and re stretch an off-white carpet in an attic that was used only for storage, and had a couple of small stains that were left behind by the previous owner. At the acceptance of his bid, he assured me the stains would be no problem, and they would come out. Denis arrived June 11, and before he started the actual cleaning, he up-sold brightener and stain-protection at additional costs above what we had agreed on. Thinking the carpet would be CLEAN, and would repel any future stains and keep the carpet looking good for years to come, the homeowner agreed to the high pressure up-sell. After the declared completion, I went to have a look and immediately saw that the stains still remained, but as the stain protection had been applied, they were pretty much now set in and would never come out. (activate strategic furniture placement protocol) Denis then informed me his guy would be back in two days to re stretch the carpet. When I called the next day to verify what time they would be here, he said his stretcher guy had broken his arm, and he himself would be the one to re stretch it. He arrived a week later to do the stretching, completely unprepared with the proper tools and asked if we had any 2x4 lying around. We did not. Denis then called in another guy to help him, and within minutes informed me that the carpet had been & incorrectly laid and the tack strips were too far from the wall and the re-stretching would not be possible. He said the strips needed to be completely replaced and positioned closer to the wall, and they would have to come back in a few days to replace the tack strips. Later that evening I called an associate who lays carpet in my home state to inquire how far the strips needed to be - and was told there was nothing wrong with where the strips were. So I asked Denis why he said they were not installed correctly. He then changed his story and said it was not that they were too far away from the wall - the tacks themselves were TOO SHORT, and if they were longer they would grip the carpet better and keep it stretched and looking new. In theory that could make sense ... At this point I should have booted him out the door, but instead gave him one last shot at finishing what he agreed to. In an attempt to move the job along and get it done, I told him to go ahead and get the longer tacks and I would remove the old ones so all he had to do was place the new ones and stretch the carpet. I removed the tack strips on June 24 and informed him as such. On July 2 I texted him asking again when he planned to return and was told & Sunday I cleared my schedule to be available on Sunday for him to finish the job. He never showed. It is now July 26. There have been multiple texts from me to him since July 2, and he has yet to answer a single one. As of this posting, Denis has yet to contact me. I now have to hire another contractor to finish the job Denis has abandoned If you want a good job done by somebody who does what they say they are going to do - Denis, of Elements Carpet Cleaning, is *NOT* the guy you want to hire.
