Project: Remodel or Renovate a Single Room
Jim, Wes, Chris, John, and the entire Elevate Design Build team we've worked with have far exceeded our expectations. We recently purchased a home with serious foundation problems in a second story sunroom addition. The sunroom was the jewel of the house, but the foundation was failing and the room had dropped about 5 inches. We received several opinions about how to proceed - ranging from repairs that would re-support but not level the room to demolition and rebuilding to abandoning the purchase of the property! Jim replied to my online inquiry quickly (and over the weekend!) and met us at the property a couple of days later. He was knowledgable, direct, professional, and very fun to work with. We felt most comfortable with his approach and expertise and were delighted that their proposed budget was more than competitive while still satisfying our entire wish list. They started work ahead of their original proposed schedule and kept us informed at every step. Chris led the onsite work and brought great comfort through stories of past work and his confidence about our approach. Wes (co-owner) was also on the site most days. It's worth noting that this project ultimately happened during the pandemic and we felt that the team took every precaution to respect our health, use appropriate protective equipment, and essentially never enter our home unless absolutely necessary for the project (and with advanced notice). The work itself was excellent. No detail was too small. At one point, it was decided that a change in approach would allow them to spare an existing lower structure slotted for demo. It made the work harder for the crew, but they did it and stayed on budget because they felt it was the right decision for us and our home. While other contractors advised that we'd need to rip out and replace all flooring and windows because they would surely crack while jacking the room to level, Jim said we should and wait and see - maybe we'll get lucky! He priced both eventualities - how much if we were able to use existing vs. if we needed to replace part or all of the interior features. The end result? Jim was right - we got lucky and no windows or tiles cracked! Another excellent piece of guidance that ultimately saved us money and earned our respect but was no financial benefit to the Elevate Team. Our sunroom is level, properly supported, and was less expensive than we budgeted. It is beautiful work, and it has made our house the "dream home" that we were hoping would be possible. In our experience, Elevate Design Build is a team of capable, experienced professionals with buckets of integrity. You can trust them with your home and your wallets. We did and we're thrilled. We've already requested a quote for our next project!

I hired Elevate Design Build to rebuild a project done by another builder, this time it was done correctly. They were on time, on budget and did great work. They made the space look better than new, one that will now last for years to come. I an putting a complete in law Suite on to my house and Elevate Design Build is the company that I trust to do it right. I'm looking forward to working with them on this project and several more to come.

Very professional contractors to work with. Spencer (job foreman and lead installer) was very conscientious and dedicated to the project. Always was very respectful of our home and leaving the work area safe and clean. I have now been using the bath for over a year and could not be happier with the completed project.

Review by Kevin C. in Mount Airy, MD
We have the great misfortune of having entered into a contract with Elevate Design-Build to build an addition to our house. I would write that Wescott built an addition to our home pursuant with the terms of that contract, but that would be an inaccurate statement (he significantly overcharged us for work he never completed). According to his website, Wescott characterizes himself as having strong communication skills. He must be accustomed to interacting with deaf mutes because I am still waiting for him to begin communicating. When they first started excavating, someone approached me about where we would prefer to have the dirt piled while construction was underway. I appreciated the gesture and asked that the dirt pile be located out of sight from the front of the house, as I wanted to minimize disruption to the neighbors. They agreed, and I assumed we understood each other. After returning from work for the day, I found a large pile of dirt in the front yard; and that pile of dirt remained untouched for 8 months. When we went to the company Elevate recommended to select the countertop, we were met with a very limited selection. Upon locating something we liked, we asked the employee what the cost difference was between the different levels of pricing, which were only labeled as B and C. The response we received was: â Oh, we have no idea what the price difference is, you will have to take that matter up with the builder.â We did so, and the only reaction we received can only be characterized as incredulous. After my almost speechless reaction, we received notification, in writing, that Elevate decided to â give usâ the upgrade countertops. I knew we were in trouble when, after the drywall was finished, work completely stopped last fall and we did not see anyone for well over a month. I wasnâ t aware it took drywall mud that lon After Elevate decided they had finished the work they were going to complete, we had a punch list of work needing revision or completion, and they agreed to address that punch list. I inquired as to the reason why the bathroom looked nothing like the renderings they presented us upon signing the contract (including small shelves and a built-in teak shower seat), and the response I received was: **We just didntt think it would look right, and we did not want to drill through the shower tiles. Make no mistake -- the things not completed in the bathroom were rather expensive items that were included in the price of the contract. They also informed us that **you can always get plastic ones from Home Depot and install them yourselves**. Upon the majority of construction being completed, Wescott contacted us and demanded final payment. This is where my mistake comes to play -- I trusted him to finish work and provided him with a check. Quite frankly, I was concerned that if we did not pay him pursuant to his demands, we would never see him or anyone in his employ again. Items I asked to have deducted from our account include: a hot water heater upgrade that was a necessity for the new demand placed on the unit (addition of a full kitchen and bathroom); built-in rear steps to account for the property grade (there is a drop of approximately 3 feet from the bottom of the back door); and the aforementioned items in the bathroom that Elevate refused to address. The main client for this project was my widowed, elderly mother on a fixed income who used proceeds from the sale of her home to add an in-law suite to our home in Howard County, Maryland. If you think there is something unjust in the above story, please think twice about signing that contract.

Jim and Wes were professional and easy to work with through the whole process. We wanted to be very involved with the design and remodel and they had no problem doing so. Communication was prompt as well. Really happy how the project turned out.

Working with the Elevate team was a pleasure. Jim spoke to us about what we wanted in our new master bedroom and bath and came up with a terrific design. He really understood our vision for the space. Wes was awesome to work with - the craftsmanship in the space is top notch. We had great communication throughout the entire project and Elevate did so much to keep us on schedule and within budget. Our new Master Bedroom and Bath is the perfect space for our house and we love it. Elevate is a great company to work with and I highly recommend them for home renovation projects.

I found this team to be the ONLY trustworthy builders with respectful, friendly, positive attitudes, who truly made an effort to listen to our vision and put it all together. They got the job done quickly and efficiently without any hassle. They were quick to give feedback and responded to all of our questions. Their work is high quality. I will be using them for our next major addition/remodel and will recommend them to all of our friends, family and neighbors.

Wes (CEO) and Jim (designer and partner) were great to deal with. Jim came to our home and spoke with us in length about what we wanted and several days later sent us a computer graphic design of our addition with a bedroom and master bathroom. Due to issues in our home the plan had to be revised, Jim and Wes insured we benefited from the revision. All work was above par, I am pretty handy and wanted a lot of little things added and the let me design and implement those things. Being handy and working on construction sites for 25 years I know when short cuts are being taken. i had no such issues with elevate Design. None. Short cut is not in their vocabulary. If it isn't done correctly by any of their crews it is immediately corrected to be above par as they require. I was here for the entire process from framing to paint and while my wife loves the look of the completed project, what was important to me was what was under the paint. Were the walls straight, were the corners square where wall meet, were tile, shelves installed level, was the electrical wiring kept neat and away from where you might hang a picture, was plumping done neatly but securely behind the walls, these are things I worried about and checked constantly and never had to ask for any correction on any of these issues because they were done correctly the first time. They also kept the work site clean and safe. I am a big proponent of safety and they worked and kept site safe. we had dogs (5) around the entire time and never had issues. I did take pictures of all work from studs to completion and that was very helpful latter when all work was done and I added TV's, hung items etc as it reminded me of where everything is such as studs and piping. I and my wife were in constant contact via text with both Wes and Jim and they responded back quickly, that was extremely important in some last minute decisions with plumping or other contractors. They don't just give you an addition, they give the home you want and wished for but couldn't put into words. Not just a GREAT company but two people we are happy to call our friends! Jim, Wes, give kudos to your crews we didn't have the chance to say bye to and thank them for building our dream room!

The Elevate Team was professional and available from the start of the project until the end. They kept to the timeline and the budget. Wes paid close attention to detail throughout construction. The workmanship was great. Our bedroom addition met all of our expectations.
