Brick or Stone Tuck pointing
$3,500
While the majority of the work was done to a satisfactory level, one of the main issues was with the chimney stack that they were suppose to do a 100% gring out and restore. It is already missing chuncks of mortar. In addition, I asked twice for a lien waiver and it has been a year since the project and still no lien waiver. In addition, one of the contractors that worked on my place while employeed with Emerson, keeps coming by my home asking to do additional work and commenting on how bad his team did on my job last year.
Response from Emerson Masonry
"I havent heard from any of my customers asking for a lien waiver in the last year and if the lien waiver was su important then why dont they call or email and ask for one. All of our wokr carries a 1 year warranty and no one has called or emailed to ask us to come back and fix these supposed missing chunks. I cant control what an ex-employee does i fired them for a reason."

He did what he said. Did something for me that was not a masonry associated task and did not charge me extra. He was fair, nothing hidden, cleaned up after himself.

I've had three tuckpointing jobs done in the course of 2 years and wish that I'd found Grant much earlier. He rebuilt the face of a fireplace and repaired some spawling. Really wonderful. First time in a long time I've been please with work done. Price was also fantastic. Great value. Only thing communication isn't always that great, but these guys do get busy. The main thing is when he did start, he finished in good time and did an excellent job.

I cannot rate this company as very good because of one issue. While having my ornamental chimney repaired, a clay edging tile was damaged. It took two weeks to get the replacement from the company and this was after we paid the bill in good faith, upon hearing the replacement would come later that evening (on the day the work was done). We also had to install the tile ourselves as we could not wait any longer for someone to show up and do it. The work on the chimney, however, was great and the owner took time to find a brick that closely matched the original. We were also given all the options to fixing the chimney, from the "band-aid" approach to replacing the spalling bricks. We very much appreciated this honesty and conversation upfront.
Response from Emerson Masonry
"I did try to get the replacement tile the day it was damaged but due to the fact that the tiles on the roofing edge were 60 years old and no longer being made it took a long time to find one the correct shape and color at local building material salvage yards. It was acquired and the homeowners told us they would install it themselves and not to worry about it. I guess I should have worried abo"

This job was done two weeks ago. The men that did the job were very friendly but left a mess that I wound up cleaning up. I believe the tuck pointing was done with inferior mortar (scrapes off.) So far Mr. Emerson has refused to come look at it even after he told me he would personally. I made a definite first time home buyer mistake...I gave the check to the guys that did the work even though they didn't have the receipt/warranty information with them. Mr. Emerson, after several requests, still has not provided me with my receipt or warranty information but conveniently was able to cash my check. I originally contacted him via email with my request. When he didn't respond I called him. He said he had "blown off" my email but he was sorry and would mail me the receipt/warranty. I have yet to receive it. If this isn't taken care of soon I'm afraid I will have to file a complaint with the BBB.
Response from Emerson Masonry
"I explained to the homeowner that the mortar takes time to cure and harden and they never made the issue of there being a mess known to our company otherwise we would have cleaned it up ASAP."

It was difficult settling on a date for Emerson to come out and do the work. One time they said they would be out but never came and didn't call to let knowo they wouldn't be coming. Once they did get out they did amazing work! The brickwork and tuckpointing look amazing~we couldn't be happier!

Grant was able to start and finish the job quickly. He also alerted me to some other minor problems with my building (a roofing problem and a window problem) that he noticed while working. I am very pleased with his work.

Talked a good game but his lack of supervision of his workers resulted in a less than professional job. His employee chipped the tub in several places. We had a professional refinish the tub & he complained about the price, passing along additional charges to me. The brick work job to the exterior of the house left broken glass everywhere and his mason dumped excess mortar in my neighbor's yard. Grant corrected when I complained, but he should have supervised. Tile job was good but I had to remove the haze & seal grout...Grant didn't show for that part of the job & we needed it sealed for the tub refinish. Would not recommend.
Response from Emerson Masonry
"I did not over charge the homeowner any more than the contracted price minus the cost of the repairs to their bath tub. Tub would have been replaced completely however it is so old and of a size not commonly made anymore and was unavailable."

A very pleasant experience. We used Emerson Construction for tuckpointing and the rebuilding of a brick wall. The owner, Grant Emerson, was accessible, professional, and very helpful. The work was completed in a timely fashion and we were very happy with the quality. The cost was quite reasonable. We plan to use Grant and his team for other projects. In fact, we have already setup another appointment to meet with Grant to discuss lining our chimney and to replace our coal chute with glass brick.
