Finishing a basement can be one of the most expensive decisions a family can make outside of building/purchasing the home itself. When we built our home over ten years ago we left the basement un-finished to save on cost. Over the course of the following decade we had several bids from various companies and individuals. Empire offered a competitive price especially when you take into account their services offered. We heard of many first-hand accounts of people who went with individual contractors and had nothing but problems and a basement finish that took well over a year to complete. We had none of those problems. We’re incredibly happy that we picked Empire. They took our plans/ideas and offered their own professional suggestions to arrive at a final blueprint. The timeline they have laid out is incredibly organized and available online through a project manager called Buildertrend which can handle communications and change-orders. Once the work began our basement was completed on schedule in 3 months. All of their contractors, from the framers to the painters were awesome and very competent in their work. We even discovered an existing small leak with the main sewer line trunk. None of the couplings were ever cemented by our original builder. It’s a wonder that it was never more than a small drip. Empire’s plumber took apart the entire tree, re-built it, and cemented it practically for free. In the end our finished basement is absolutely perfect. We especially love the custom cabinetry we had built for the living room entertainment center and the bathroom. The placement of all the new HVAC vents is great, as is the new light fixtures and their different zones. We wouldn’t change anything and in fact kind of wish the rest of the house could match the finishing options in our new basement. We have recommended Empire to several neighbors and friends.

We hired Empire to finish our basement. I could not have asked for a better experience. From the planning phase all the way to completion I do not have one complaint. If I reached out to our project manager, Bob, he would respond by email or coming by the site within 1 day. He would take time to explain to me the process and what to expect next. The people that did the actual work were very professional and very friendly. If I would go downstairs to check on progress they would always stop and talk to me, answering any questions I may have. The work that was completed was done well. They finished the project within the time frame and left me with a beautifully finished basement. I would use them again in a heartbeat and would strongly recommend them to anyone.

The absolute best communications from a contractor I’ve experienced. The work quality was exceptional but I would recommend because of how easy they were to work with and how quick they responded to questions. Would work with them again anytime!

Great work, reliable, dependable and quality work

Empire did an incredible job on our basement remodel. I thought they offered great advice on the design, while also letting us do what we wanted to do. Communication was great. It was a fairly big project, so there were inevitable issues, but I always felt they went out of their way to make sure we were happy with the end result. I was very comfortable with everyone who worked on the project and again, we are very pleased with the result. I look forward to working with them again in the future.

Poor project management with lack of consistent communication. Project was delayed several times and took over 4-1/2 months. to complete. Quality of workmanship was marginal and several contractors had to return to fix initial work. Most notable issues were 1) the cabinetry was improperly stained and needed three tries to get the color and finish correct and 2) the counter top and bar top were not level and needed to be reinstalled. We experienced many other issues. too many to mention but hope the mistakes made by the company are not incurred by future clients. Overall, we were disappointed with the project and will not recommend the company to others.

The Empire project manager was very respectful and communicative on project statuses. The team was always responsive to questions and offered excellent advise for design options. They held to the timelines promised (and in some cases were significantly ahead of schedule). We had only 2 issues throughout the entire project and Empire was very cooperative in helping resolve them quickly satisfactorily. Their customer service is exemplary. I would highly recommend them and will contact them again for our next remodel project.

End product was very good, but during entire process communication was marginal. I had to continually follow up.

In February of 2014 we interviewed 4 contractors for the first phase of a 2 part construction project. The first phase consisted of converting an existing bedroom into a new master bath and converting the existing master bath and adjacent small walk-in closet into a large walk in closet. We needed to remove 1 window in the master bedroom and replace the existing window in the new bathroom with a long high narrow window. We wanted to replace all the existing trim and doors. We would finish the floor and all the closet infrastructure ourselves. We chose Empire Basement Solutions to complete the project. We were assured that the project should take 8 weeks, 10 weeks at most. We were wanting to start the project the last week in march, however, it wasn't started until April 6. Instead of 8 to 10 weeks, the project took over 14 weeks to complete. We were very pleased with the final outcome of the project, the materials, the attention to detail. The subcontractors were all trustworthy and friendly and sensitive to our needs. Our Project manager was extremely knowledgable and cared very much about producing a quality product. He went above and beyond the requirements for us and helped us through some rough spots in the process. Our biggest negative comment would be the time line which was excessive! We also were not pleased with the bidding process as project costs were never given and we didn't know what our allowances were on several major items. We wanted to upgrade several items, but we never really knew what the actual costs were for the basic materials, so consequently, we never really knew where we stood on the budget. That said, our costs overruns were less than 5% of our total, which we were satisfied with.
