"Mr. G. [Consumer name withheld at their request] hired Enhancement Systems to extend his existing central vacuum system into his basement, which was being finished. I met with Mr. G. [Consumer name withheld at their request] to estimate the project. I did need to reschedule our first appointment. I discovered that he had attempted to do the job himself. He had purchased parts over the internet. Over 90% of his efforts needed to be removed. There were many places that other pipes and wires were hanging loose off the ceiling. I also mentioned to him that my crew would also clip up the loosened vacuum pipes that he had left. I e-mailed him an estimate. It read: Qty 6 Rough-in central vacuum system standard inlets. Includes all fittings, pipe, and labor. Replace run in Theater to front, move run in back, fix 2 garage inlets, add 2 inlets 4 Basement, 2 Garage Cost per unit $200.00 Amt, $1200. Mr G. [Consumer name withheld at their request] called me and haggled the price down to $850.00. I added to the Estimate Discount Parts purchased on line & no return trip for finish $ -350.00. Total job: $850.00. Our team arrived on schedule on May 29, 2018. They went over the job and started work. Mr. G. [Consumer name withheld at their request] came and went during the day. My worker, Tom, smelled gas when he climbed on the step ladder. He called over Alex who also smelled it. Alex went up and told Mr G. [Consumer name withheld at their request]. He came down and also smelled it. He said he would call the contractor who was working on the basement and have him repair it. Upon completion, our team tested the whole system with Mr G. [Consumer name withheld at their request]. They gave him the invoice for the agreed upon $850.00 and Mr. G. [Consumer name withheld at their request] REFUSED to pay $850.00. He claimed we only installed 3 inlets in the basement. He refused to pay for the pipe removal and strapping all the pipe he had left hanging. He offered $200.00 per inlet- $600.00 for the job. My team called me. We argued back and forth. He hung up on me once. Finally, I asked him "How many inlets in the basement were installed?" He answered 3. I asked if they also removed the 2 garage. inlets he had attempted to install. He said YES. Then did we install an inlet back into the garage? He said yes. SO I said give the men a check for $800.00. 4 inlets at $200.00 I accepted the $50.00 less and chalked it up to experience. NEVER WAS THE GAS LEAK EVEN MENTIONED TO ME. Today 6/8/18 7PM is the first I am hearing of a gas leak. From the above story, you and I know there is NO WAY Mr G. [Consumer name withheld at their request] would have let our men leave with a check if he believed that we caused the leak."
"We offered FREE advice on the phone to clean the filter screen. We mentioned avoiding a service call. Instead, the homeowner scheduled us to come clean & service a very old central vacuum power unit. We spent over 40 minutes checking out and servicing the entire very old system. When we left the old system was working to full capacity. A normal service charge was given for 2 men up to 1 hour."
