Wood or Fiber Cement Siding Repair or Partial Replacement
Contractor did not do a good inspection of the proposed work prior to providing his estimate. After he started the job, he kept pointing out additional problems which exceeded the agreed amount. Change estimates were not provided in advance for agreement and we were presented a bill that exceeded the original amount. At one point, the amount would have exceeded the estimate over $2500. I will not use Home Advisor or this company again nor will I recommend them to anyone.
Response from Entech Home Improvement SVCS
"In response to this undeserved rating, let me say that these are those dishonest people that we all know trying to get all they can without having to pay for it. They have no common decency and are good at hiding that fact to get what they want when they need it. I was contacted by a Mr. Johnson and told to talk to another person (Mr. Jones who lived in the home) about what needed to be done about some siding rot on a house of John Barrow Rd. We walked around the house and he pointed out all the places that he said needed repair. It was obvious from just looking at it that this siding had long been neglected and needed almost complete replacement and Mr. Jones was told that. I was hired and, as is very common, I uncovered several additional small areas of hidden rot that were in DIRE need of replacement because the water was entering the wall. In an effort to help keep my customers from making the same repairs time after time, I brought these areas to the attention of Mr. Jones, who then told me to go ahead and replace it. In addition to the rot I found, there was a squirrel trap covering a 3" hole in the roof. He said that it had been there since Covid started a year and a half ago at least! The resulting water intrusion had destroyed a large section of the roof decking so I told him I would look into it and provide him with a separate estimate. I told him that we would need to rent a dumpster for all the shingles and waste and it would cost about $365. He then told me to go ahead and order that so I did. At that point, I asked him if there was going to be a problem paying for these additional repairs. He replied that he would pay what Mr. Johnson didn't cover. Each time I made a recommendation he picked up the phone and called Mr. Johnson, so he was informed. I found out later that they were all related but I had no reason not to trust him. That was a big mistake. On the last area to be repaired I uncovered a large area of rotted plywood behind the siding. Replacing it would mean doing a lot of extra work so I asked Mr. Jones if he would call Mr. Johnson to come to look at it and give me some direction as to what they want to do. It was only after they got there that I was told that Mrs., not Mr., Johnson was the actual owner and had the final word. Now I was dealing with 3 different parties. She was very rude and showed me no common respect at all. Even after seeing the damage firsthand, she still acted as if I was trying to extort money from them and treated me as such. She refused to acknowledge the damage then told me that they did not have any more money to spend so I had no choice but to cover the rotted area with new siding. There was nothing for the screws and nails to even hold on to. It was about this time that I realized Mr. Jones was not telling them what he was telling me. They were acting as if Mr. Jones called them over there because I was doing a lot of unnecessary repairs when he was the one that told me to do them! So when the project was completed I revised the estimate to include the additional work that I was told to repair by Mr. Jones. Low and behold Mrs. Johnson refused to pay for anything additional, including the materials that I bought out of my own pocket, she said no one informed her of it beforehand. Keep in mind that I did not even know she existed before this. Mr. Johnson just sat inside the car and Mr Jones suddenly had no money, even though he "authorized" the repairs, a big surprise. Mrs. Johnson obviously knew about the additional work when it was done because she refers to it in the review above that she submitted BEFORE the job was even completed! She chose not to mention it before because she had already decided that she was not going to pay for it. They cost me $1200 for that criminal run around. One day all shall be judged."
