Expressions General Remodel

It has been 2 years since the remodeling of my living room, bathroom, and addition of a bedroom and a bathroom was completed by this company. I am glad I waited to write this review until now because I can now better judge the quality of their work and as you can see from the number of stars, it is not good. First, the communication with owner/project manager was horrible. Arnold was terrible about supervising work quality, including the electrical work done, or knowing how to do the finishing work around a new fireplace, or even giving us ideas on how to optimize lighting for the room we added. There was also a change in the plans about the window and Arnold forgot to let us know about or get our opinion to see if it was okay with us. The insulation in the attic above the new room was not replenished (we kept wondering why the room got so cold during winter). I had to call them back to have this done and it took more than a couple of times to actually get them to do it. We started to have electrical problems less than a year after the work was completed. They came back to repair one problem only for another problem to show up. I got tired of calling them back, so we still have the lights in the living room and the new room not working. It had been a year before reinstall the faucet in one of the bathrooms because it was not install properly. The laminated floor they installed is starting to fall apart. In summary, customer service was terrible, I think we got suboptimal work for what we paid, and I think I ended up putting more work in the project than I should have as the client.

I hired Expressions General Remodel for my master bath remodel in October 2017. This was to be a fairly extensive remodel, including enlarging the shower, moving walls, plumbing and adding electrical. The project was estimated to be over $23,000. I was initially impressed by Miles who represented the company professionally and assured me that this "family run business" would do a beautiful and professional job. It quickly became evident that this company is not well run. There exists a complete lack of communication between team members; Miles, Janeth and Arnold. This created constant chaos, confusion, frustration and mistakes. Janeth (partner) who is responsible for ordering, shopping and invoicing, and Arnold (contractor) repeatedly failed to communicate plans, details, or materials needed. Janeth repeatedly failed to answer simple questions or respond to emails. She provided little guidance or assistance but added a great deal of confusion and frustration. There was little regard for finishing touches or quality workmanship. Errors made were disregarded with no accountability. When Arnold placed the wrong tile order to trim the shower and shelves within he blamed the mistake on the homeowner stating no such tile exists. Without so much as an apology or calling the tile shop to inquire about the right tile, he demanded I order the tile. I then received a harassing email from Janeth stating I was the cause of the delays and costing them a lot of money. To make matters worse they are now demanding payment for their mistake! Promises to repair or replace poor workmanship were ignored. Beautiful wall paneling was laid improperly, with partial boards at eye level, while full boards were hidden by wide baseboard. What I deemed unprofessional conduct, threatening and intimidation tactics were repeatedly employed by both Janeth and Arnold to hurry the job along. Yet day after day workers wouldn't show up as promised or leave as soon as they arrived stating they didn't have the materials necessary to continue work. When inquiring how much extra it would be to replace the bath tub Janeth replied "it could be offensive for some people to talk about price for something they wish to have." After being advised by Janeth and Miles to order an under-mount tub, Arnold stated I should have gotten another type of tub. Janeth repeatedly accused me of adding on more work, yet only one change order exists dated before the project commenced. Details were disregarded or overlooked. There exists absolutely no supervision of workers, repeated inability to reach Arnold by workers and myself. Workers complained daily about the lack of clear communication, direction and ordering errors made by Janeth and Arnold. I paid an extra $1729 for tile yet have enough left over to re-tile the entire floor. I could no longer tolerate what I considered unprofessional conduct, harassing and intimidation ploys and thus the job remains unfinished and I do not have a usable master bath.

Workers were great and did a good job. Felt like the project managers could have listened and noted our project better. After several calls, emails and texts the wrong tile and sink were ordered. With my unorthodox work schedule we asked if we could get a window of when the workers would show up, so we weren?t up at 730 everyday expecting the workers and they not show until 10 or 12. I had to call and ask if the project was completed and why the protective films were not removed at the end of the project. At the beginning of the project I was quoted 2200.00 to add another gas line, which I was ok with. Then at the end there was an additional 600 for the equals valve, I would have thought that was apart of the added gas line quote. I am happy with the way the kitchen turned out

Thoroughly enjoyed working with Miles throughout the project. Miles did an excellent job of providing an accurate bid and keeping me informed throughout the progress of the job. He was a pleasure to work with. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. My project involved the construction of a wall for a corner gas fireplace unit, along with a custom mantle and built-in cabinets. The finished product is absolutely gorgeous...even better than I hoped. I am considering remodeling my kitchen this summer and if I do, I will definitely be using Expressions General Remodel.

The owners, Janeth and Arnold are wonderful people. We remodeled our kitchen. We are happy with their work. There are a few small things they will have to fix, but they have promised to come back tomorrow and get it done. We loved working with this company. Janeth takes an active interest in helping your ideas take shape. She makes excellent suggestions and has an artistic mind. Arnold is an honest, sincere and polite guy. Very professional and a perfect gentleman. Myles is proactive and prompt. We will definitely hire them in the future.
