Tile: Ceramic and Porcelain - Install
I would not recommend Wells Flooring and Tile. Damian never finished the job and will not return my calls. The project was to install 1-inch hex tiles on the floor of my bathroom. The 1-inch tiles came in 12x12 inch square sections. Damian installed the backer board to the subfloor and then laid the sheets of tiles to the floor with thinset. However, he never came back to finish cleaning the thin-set from the tiles or doing any of the grout work. In addition to the job not being completed, the tiles are set unevenly--some higher or lower than the others. During the install, he did not have a float to level the tiles and was just pressing them down with his hands. When I asked about it Damian went and got a piece of scrap wood and said that would work. As he laid the tile sheets into the thinset, he did not maintain even spacing between the tiles so some have very large gaps between them, and others are touching to the point that no grout could get in the space. Damian also used a trowel that was notched too large for the type of tile I had so the thinset oozed up between the individual tiles level with the surface on 60% of the floor (or more), leaving no place to grout the tiles. Damian said that was not uncommon and he would remove the thin-set before grouting. When he came back the next week he brought a small hand file to remove the excess thin-set. After a couple of hours trying to sand down the thin-set (and making little progress) he said he had to go do some legal work and would come back. That was the last time I saw Damian. A week later I called Damian to ask when he was coming back to finish. He said he thought he might be coming down with a cold so he was self-quarantining. That was almost 2 months ago and the last time I have been in contact with him. Since then I have called and emailed him with no response. He will not return my messages or call me to discuss a plan or schedule to finish this tile job. My only option is to hire a new contractor to try and fix what was done or remove the incorrectly set tile and start over. I will be out the cost of the original tiles and supplies, plus the cost to remove the work Damian did, and then reinstall the new tiles. Damian was a nice guy and seemed genuinely interested in the work. But, I think he never had done the kind of tile job I had and did not realize his errors until he had let everything dry. Then, rather than fix it or work with me to make it right, he just is ignoring my calls/texts and hoping this goes away.
