Project was never completed. some materials were different from what we agreed on and Mr. Pendall is no longer communicating with me. 2 out of 6 tasks were completed and he is not responding.

Hired but will start work in about 2 weeks

My project was to build a deck, about 1/3 around a 30 ft above-ground pool. Three days into the job, he replaced a 6â x 18â section of my existing decking that was included in the contract price. This sub-project did increase in scope to replace existing stair decking and reinforce the joist. I expected additional cost but did not get the price beforehand, trusting it would be reasonable. I was expecting around $500. To my shock, I was presented with a bill for an additional $1,800. After seeing some of the problems with the new pool deck framing, I realized this contractor was willing to cut corners to complete the job quickly. I called for a building inspection. Thank goodness I did! The framing had several structural and code violations. The concrete footings were wrong, beams were not double 2x12 supported, support span lengths exceeded the maximum length of 9 ft, and support post must be under the beams not side attached. Clearly, he did not know the local code. The City Engineer was reviewing revised details (that I had to provide) to approve a mitigation strategy to pass. Discovered the contractor did not have a license in the city of Madison. He had to get a license before the process could continue. Instead of fixing the problems, he tried to skirt around the needed work and called for a second inspection, and failed again! He got mad and blamed me. When I tried to discuss, he walked off. He was rude, disrespectful, and non-responsive. To help, I purchased the additional lumber to reinforce the supports and beams as prescribed by code. Another $1,000 I did not expect. Over the next 2 weeks, his team worked only 3 half days. Because I had already paid $17,000, I had no choice but to stay calm, patient, and hope I could get my deck finished. He made no attempt to communicate or keep me informed. A horrible experience. About the only positive thing I can say, he finally finished the job. Because I had no trust in my contractor, I said I would make the final payment ($3,500) upon final inspection. He got extremely mad. Yelled and cursed at me with my family present. After I learned that he was not going to pay his employees who did the demanding work to finish my deck, I paid him that day, the inspection was 3 days later. Overall, exceedingly difficult, and stressful endeavor, that cost me $2,800 above the contract price. Not a happy customer! I do NOT recommend this contractor.

Would use again

Hired them to build a shed, add a laundry room and replace an existing wood deck with trex. Signed contract in December and are still left with unfinished work. Had to hire someone else to clean up mess and complete aspects of the job that left our house exposed to weather. Always an excuse why they can not be there.

Hired to remove wood paneling, hang drywall, install trim. Quoted, 3 weeks on 7 January, work started within 2 weeks. On March 12th, it had been 3 weeks since we last saw anybody. Left debris piles in my backyard, front yard, and in the house. Had to hire a new contractor to remove/install new trim and fix door casings. We agreed on a price reimbursement and would part ways...

DND is a professional team and a pleasure to work with. They were courteous. prompt, and completed a variety of work on our home. They came when they said they would, helped guide us through the design process, and tidied up. Will definitely work with Dennis again.
